| I'm really thinking about building a new age from a shell. It's something I've wanted to do for a few years. I've put a list together with what I think it may cost, I'd do my own labour and work in a dealership so have the tools/help I need.
Just adding up and wondering if its worth it? It is more for the satisfaction and knowledge I've done it more than anything.
Have I missed anything and are my costs about right?

| 6 grand for an engine and box, a grand for brakes ??? . You can buy a full car for that m8.. Love the fact that you have added £200 for a steering wheel lol.

| I'll sell you mine for the price of the engine and gearbox, then you can strip it and rebuild it | |

| Generally the shell build up to a complete car would be thought to be a cheaper alternative than buying a Let's say " normal " car. Unless you had a vision on line like Gipa had when he built up Finns old type R and the car was a " one off ", Then that's great but if your car is going to be another generic STI than it would not be financially Vesible because the general prices for newage STI's are very reasonable now. But if you want to do it as a personal feat of self gratification and workmanship then that's great mate. It's all about individuality at the end of the day | |

| Things like bearings, consumables, clips and hoses, powder coating and painting stuff to 'freshen' it up,
I would say buy a half started/completed project and tidy/mint it up from there, be far cheaper, easier and faster.

| Idea was to have a new age shell painted white, and build a good reliable 400/400 possibly 2.5 from likes of Andy Kindon or 2.1 striker from engine tuner. 6 speed box, big brakes, etc..
Shell if be looking for would most probs be a broken car but looking at one with all doors, glass still in, rolling shell too so still has lots left on it.
Looks like I'd need engine, box, diffs, interior and front end. I Know there'd be more and the money isn't everything g although I'm certainly not swimming in it. Lol
Thinking of a slow build over about a year, adding hits every month and a car I'd like to keep. Just thought it may be better than buying a nice STI for its bottom end to go and need a rebuild anyway.

| Them engine tuner motors aint cheap! I'd say get a car with a poorly engine/gearbox and use that as the base, strip it down and overhaul whats on the car at present and get a motor to build up and then drop in when it's all done, | |

| its a great idea! but people break these cars as they are worth more in parts so buying a shell and then all the parts is gunna work out more expensive then buying a car! so what i would do is look for car with a blown engine and then you can take it too bits do what u want to do and build it back up! | |
