| Jonny what made you change to Mobil 1 & what did you use in the past ?
There seems to be a lot of suggestions on SNet that 10W-60 is too thick and should only be used as a track oil & that 10W 50 is a better choice for a modified car with fast road use. What are your thoughts on this ?
I'm still learning and currently use millers nano 10W 60 myself in my Hawk
Thanks | |

| quick question , when is it best to check oil levels? i checked when i got in from work and it was on the low mark so went and got some oil went to put it in and checked before i put it in and it was showing just below full??? i didnt put any in as didnt want to over full it. it doesnt drop any or smoke either and only has it changed 1500 mile ago.
also can i use 15-50 fully synthetic mobil one? | |

| I am not really bothered what the "make" of oil is as long as the properties are correct and from a reputable manufacturer Castrol, Mobil etc The reason I chose 10/60 grade oil is simple, at low temps the first number is the grade to look at so for zero point the oil has a viscosity grade 10 so is not very thick so will flow well when the engine is cold, the 10 grade means the viscosity is the same as 10/40 10/50 or 10/60 or what ever oil it is at low temps, this shows the posts you have been reading are from people that don't understand oil grades, all engine oil thins as it warms up, the bit I am interested in for a tuned subaru engine is the second number, this is the viscosity at 100 degrees c, I prefer the oil to be thicker at high temps to ensure there is plenty protection for the bearings as subaru bearings are "by design" very narrow meaning they have a lot of load over a very small area, I want to ensure the oil keeps its viscosity at the high temps and loads they are put under, if the oil is too thin at this point bearing and crank contact will happen, that is the last thing you need in a subaru engine as it always results in engine failure. This is how I see it anyway | |
