| I don't think my car has ever been detailed,it's 8 years old and I'd love to see the final product after its been done but can't afford to get it done professionaly (need funds for NBO) so was wondering what products I will need to do it myself, cheap as possible that will still leave a good finish,It will also be my first time at detailing aswell and not using a machine polisher as I don't have 1,plus I don't trust meself with 1 lol | |

| You do right John, you can really make a mess of your car with an MP if you dont know what you are doing, stay well clear of them and get a pro to do the job. Correcting a bad job could be very expensive indeed. You dont have to go crazy, stick to the recognised brands, Halfords range is good enough for most folks - Autoglym, Turtle Wax, Meguiars etc and you cant go far wrong. Poorboys is actually my product of choice, but you cant get it everywhere. Plenty of tips and "how to's" on YouTube. You'll want a good wash shampoo, a wheel cleaner, a glass cleaner and some kind of interior shine product, plus a polish and a wax. Get a good wash mit (lambswool etc), some microfibre clothes and a big drying towel - you might also want to buy a good quality wheel brush. Dont buy sponges they are the devils work. If the car is particularly covered you might also want to consider a clay bar. Dunno if youve got a pressure washer, you could consider a snow foam lance which is what I use. Great for getting heavy grime off the car without you actually attacking it from the off, just apply the foam and let it do its work for a few minutes before you wash it off. Whatever you decide on, just take your time. If the car hasnt really been touched before you'll need to be patient. In the future you may want to consider getting Lian & John to do the car (Razzle Dazzle), they do an amazing job for not a bank breaking amount of money, but I doubt you'll get hold of them this week | |

When you say detailed, what exactly do you mean, just a wash and polish or interior and engine bay, do you want to wax it or polish it or both, then there's the wheels and tyres you can clean the wheels and then seal them or just clean them and leave them after that, as for the tyres do you want to blacken the side walls or not, does the car have tar spots or is the paint work already very smooth and clean, all these questions need to be answered to decide how far you want to go and what products you will need

| Agree Steve, judging by the (need funds for NBO) comment I was pointing him towards a good wash job more than anything else. | |

| To detail a car you really need to understand what your doing,
To polish a car its fairly sensible/basic to do, a machine polisher can be dangerous if your not sure on the operation, plenty water and product and its cushty,
