| Hi, im new to this forum and also the subaru world having come from the french scene. Just bought a 2005 impreza wrx with 71k on it. Has full subaru service history, recent cam belt change and recent clutch change so its nice and healthy. Ive just fitted a green cotton panel air filter and a s/s 3" cat back system but im hungry for more power! After reading many threads on here i think i will be happy (for now!) with around 300 bhp ish so i can keep the standard td04 turbo on as this can handle that power. What i want to know is what mods i need before a remap to get to this power, im buying a full decat downpipe next week but what else would you recommend please? Injectors, fuel pump etc?? Also who would you recommend for my remap after all the neccessary mods are in place, i live in durham so as local as possible. cheers, Chris | |

| your standard td04 is gunna struggle too get 300 bhp, and you said "for now", ? so am guessing evently you will want more power ??
my advice is too spend once not 4 times...
so if you would be happy with say 340-350bhp, do it once, not in anutha 3maps time...
my advice (if cost is the main factor)
different turbo, vf30,vf35, td05-16g £200- 350
sti pink injectors £100
decat up-pipe £50
Walbro 255lph fuel pump £50- £70
decat downpipe + exhaust £200 (2nd hand)
remap £300
this would see a everyday fast reliable wrx..

| ok, thanx for that finn, where would you say to get the turbo and injectors from, new or second hand? ive read about side and top mount turbos what is mine do you know? would i not need a uprated walbro fuel pump to cope with this? Ive been reading about the poular mappers on here and see andy forester is very common to use, who would you reccomend and arnt the rermaps around the 450 mark? Ive just bought the decat downpipe last night so just the up pipe left to complete my 3" system, can i run my car without a map with a turbo back exhaust for now? Thanx for the help! | |

well its all down too cost on the turbo.. your turbo is front entry, personally i would go for a 2nd hand vf30, or one ov jonnygavs td05 16g's.. and a walbro pump is a good idea. budget around £320 for remap. andy forrest or bob rawle are the best for this local..

| chris, I couldn't agree with Finn more and thats no surprise coz he knows what he's talking about. Because I'm very risk averse I went the step by step route and it took me best part of 2 years to get to the stage Finn is describing. As they say, hindsight is a wonderful thing - realistically I could have done this in one go if I'd put my mind to gathering all the bits and taking one step. Its just down to patience but thats not one of my strongest traits Thankfully you've come to the right place as there are always people looking to make changes and parts become available pretty frequently and I'd have no issue buying 2nd hand from folks on here and have done so frequently. I'd certainly shop on here feeling a lot more comfortable than ebay for instance - at least here you can meet the sellers face to face. As to your last question about running the car with a turbo back system and no remap I'd wait on some advice for that. Changing the backbox alone wont give you an issue, but running it decatted without a map might be problematic. | |

| Great thanx for that lads, ive just recieed my decat downpipe today so thats my turbo back exhaust and panel filter sorted. How much is a jonnygav td05 turbo, are they new or re-furb? If i went straight for the upgraded turbo, injectors, fuel pump and map and was running 330+ bhp could my standard gearbox, intercooler, clutch etc handle this power? | |

| 5apeed boxes are good for upto 350bhp most guys and gals on here will say and I would agree with anything over 350 would need a 6 speed box | |

| You can have over 350 on a five speed box it's actually the torque level that kills the box so as long as that is kept low you will be ok..
Most people would say that 350bhp is the sensible limit tho including myself..

| Thanx or all the replys guys, am i safe running my car with my 3" turbo back exhaust without a remap or should i just leave it as a cat back for now? Can anyone reccomend where to buy a td05, walbro fuel pump and pink injectors or should i just keep a eye out on here for second hand? Ideally id like to get it all done asap but i suppose im going to have to wait untill i get get a mapping session booked in up here somewhere and get the parts to suit. | |

| Chris, here is an example of one of Jonnys turbo For Sale adds. Suffice to say they go like hot cakes, which is a very good vote of confidence by the members here. Drop him a line, he may have something he's working on soon. CLICK LINK | |

| You wont be sorry mate. I'm still kicking myself I never got to fit his TD04Hybrid before I sold the car, I think that would have been a hoot. In theory a great combo of fast spool up but with extended headroom in the bhp department. | |
