P2016 - fault code

P2016 -Intake Manifold Runner Position Sensor/Switch Circuit Low

does anyone no where this is in the engine bay ?

keeps coming on in my car. keep clearing it , goes for a few days then comes back on !!!

sometimes goes off on its own, then back on..

I think that is the TG (tumble generator) code mate, you could have a faulty one.

Darren is a well aware where they are he only took mine out 3wks ago ready for mapping

no no no, darren found the fault but wasnt sure which sensor it was, pulled each one out whilst on the machine but car still ran ok, but fault still showed !! confused,,, yeh me to.
he has emailed bob rawle to see if he knows anymore . awaiting his reply still ( 3 weeks now )
also darren didnt charge me for his time. but also couldnt work on it all day without charging me.
so.... i was after a quick fix or solution to what it is and where it is in engine bay.
darren is top man, and i always take my car to him... but its doing my headin now, and bob aint got back to darren yet.
so if it is what jonny says. where is it ? i am at the meet tues, hopfully somone will show me.

Can confirm it is the TGV's mate, not sure what side but it will be jammed open.

My info says driver side.

That pic was off google images, came up as a newage tumbler generator. Iv never heard of 1 so thort id google it to see lol

The TGV's are nothing but a PITA, STi's thankfully don't have them.

It may well be that you just need a new TGV stepper motor (There are two, one on the left bank at the back and one on the right bank at the front) in which case you can pick one up 2nd hand. You need to diagnose with the aid of a specialist which one it is. They can just plug in and know straight away which one it is. Could be the a TGV butterfly or the shaft is damaged and sticking in which case they would need to be removed, hand profiled/finished and refitted. Really you need to see a specialist, not a Subaru dealer.

IMHO the best thing you can do here is either have the TGV's removed and then the car remapped to take advantage of the modification if TGV's really are the problem, along with any other mods you might be thinking of doing before a remap (exhaust mods, air filter, Snorkus delete, fuel pump etc...), or just fit an STi inlet manifold which comes without the TGV's in which case any TGV CEL's (Error Codes(DTC's) can be switched off within the mapping so they don't come on again.

STi manifold is the easiest fit option, straightforward swap over and will cure your running issues after remap. You should be able to pick up a manifold and the spacer it comes with fairly inexpensively (£150-£200).

Don't take notice of what a Subaru dealer tells you on pricing because it's always way over the top, and they live in cloud cuckoo land anyway. I'll give you an example....An STi 90deg elbow that connects the intercooler to the turbo outlet, 3yrs ago was £150!! The same part but as a good quality aftermarket silicon hose equivalent is less than £20!! Go figure!!

Anth, if it is the motor then you would be better off removing the TGV completely and replacing them with a set from a bug or blob sti. Because you'll replace one side then the other side will go for sure and it will cost you more in the long run.

Unfortunately you will need the error codes switching off on your ECU which can only be done by a remap tweak as once you remove the TGV the error codes will be there all the time.
