PostSubject: NBO 12 Results   NBO 12 Results EmptyMon 30 Jun - 14:20

First of all I would just like to say a BIG BIG Thank You to all the NESF team who attended NBO 12 yesterday at LWV and once again made the NBO a huge success !. Once again the NESF stand was by far the biggest with the widest range of cars on display , cracking job all at NESF. It was good to talk to a few of you yesterday.

Thanks to everyone we raised £2803,66p for the Childrens air Ambulance .
We were let down by a few clubs who couldn`t  muster enough for a stand it seems and by a few traders who were no  shows. There is nothing we can do about that so I think the amount we  raised on the day was a superb effort. Well Done Everyone !. The main thing is everybody enjoyed themselves and we have received a lot of good feedback already.

Hopefully next year we can build the numbers back  up , please feel free to give us any feedback you may have on NBO 12 so  we can improve the show for the future. The show is for the Subaru  Community so please help us improve it in any way we can. The BTCC was on at Croft just up the road yesterday ,  Goodwood Festival of Speed was on , The Scottish rally was on and so  were BSB`s at Knockhill. We book a year in advance and are at the mercy  of the motorsport world who don`t announce dates until well into the new  year , March in 2014 to be exact.

The judging worked very well this year Thanks to  Andy Rae, Rob Ostle and Chris Towers with assistance from Gus McKerrow. It took no time  at all and was drama free also , Cracking Job Lads.

Very well done to all the trophy winners at NBO 12 the standard of the cars was extremely high and a credit to all the entrants , superb job !.

Mel has created history by being the first person to defend the NBO car of the day trophy. Many Congratulations Mel for a well deserved second win.

Well for me and I no a lot of other people it's the judging of the show and shine it's to bloody anal it's for a charity event abit of fun most people use there cars daily just the minority are trailer queens and it was annoying to be told ohhh you haven't got that bit of muck from the inside the door on the b pillar awai guys I no it's about having a nice clean car but that just takes the mick imagine the amount of people who would actually enter if it was just for the outside of the car and how much more money could be made!!!!

Just could do with a few more events than just show and shine In my opinion could have show and shine and maybe a flame of comp in another corner and maybe sound of or ice install comp just another few things to maybe get the interest back in the rvent seems to have slowed down the last couple rod years just my thoughts

etc.i know you say Subaru community burt on the other hand isn't it to raise money for charity ..
i think with other car clubs you could have done a lot better ££££.and also brings more folks through the gates aswell...

i think i can speak for a few members on that one

Totally agree with the above comments, we need more car groups and less snobbery, my car is 20yo and I drive it nearly everyday so it's never gonna look like a trailer queen! Maybe we need a category for how well maintained a car is that actually has seen the road, Very Happy

^^^ totally agree mate, although I do use mine everyday and still managed to get by those judges and get second in class lol!
But yeah different category for cars that are used, and another for mint show cars.  Could also do with some sort of recognition for all those who enter.....sometimes it's the little things that count Wink
Also would be nice to know what the judges are looking for and show us what they they scored rather than leaving us guessing and assuming favouritism!

Still a great day tho and definitely don't have anything to moan about, but very keen to help improve it and keep people happy and returning.

Thanks for all the honest feedback everyone. Much appreciated. It is all duly noted and will be discussed at the NBO debrief meeting .

Judging = The Hardest Job in the World. A Thankless task. I won`t say too much just yet as its highly emotive just after the event. The judging is subjective and as always will upset the majority. We have had the same comments after every NBO no exceptions. Every year we change the classes . And every year we get more complaints. The three guys who judged this year are all good lads who have immense Subaru and car Knowledge all round e.g. Rob is a qualified Subaru master technician and MOT tester with years of experience , who knows Subarus better than him ?. We will try and improve though and if you can suggest a better class or judging format please put it forward. We will always listen and try and improve. Also if one of you would like to volunteer to be a judge you are more than welcome , we would love some more volunteers to help on the day. Please let me know and I will sort it as long as you have a reasonable car knowledge. Drew was a judge last year , ask him how hard it is . You are on a hiding to nothing and under pressure. But it will be improved. Class change ideas would be much appreciated , give it some thought folks. The standard of the cars this year was extremely high and a credit to everyone , of that there is no doubt.

Having other car makes is easily solved. I agree it would fill the field right up and increase the revenue for charity and we have no problem with it. But over the last two years we had feedback that the show was becoming too wide spread and getting away from its Subaru focus. So we listened and made it more Subaru focussed. We have had feedback from other clubs that they liked the new format and obviously feedback that some clubs don`t. So whats the happy medium ?. Any suggestions once again gratefully received. My view is make it a Subaru based but Japanese associated car show . We could do that dead easily. RS shows are massive for all the RS`s , VDubs likewise so that`s just dumb . But Japanese marques perhaps ?. What do you think ?.

Traders and attractions. Once again thats a massive problem and very difficult task. Remember the organisation of the NBO was dropped on us in February this year so we didn`t do any worse than in past years. And we have a few irons in the fire. LWV place restrictions on us regarding food and stuff as you know which is difficult but the location is ideal so its a compromise situation. And traders are thin on the ground. The multiple event conflict mentioned above doesn`t help. If you know any please let us know , travelling distance is key it seems to a lot of them. Thankfully we have the regulars who support us and the Subaru community. Any ideas please get in touch.

Please keep the feedback coming , have a good think and put forward your innovations. All we want to do is keep the NBO going as an annual gathering for all the Northern Subaru Community. We can`t do it alone and most gratefully receive all your help . If you want to volunteer for anything please get in touch . That would be superb as theres loads of Subaru experience within NESF that would help the NBO be a better show.

How about judge the cars per club aswel?
Best car of NESF,
Best car of Cumbrian scoobs,
And so on.
Gives people the incentive to do more and more.
Just a thought. Then bragging rights per club from the winner hahahaha

the rs lads have croft and santa pod and other track events even the veedub lads do santa pod we need more action honesty i love a blue scooby with gold wheels as good as the next man but it does get tiresome the best thing about the last weekend was the drive in and the good laugh we had with each other i think plenty more felt the same way as when ya get there there isnt any thing to do we need some kind of entertainment

If the attendance next year is roughly the same as this year, there would be plenty of room for a small driving skills test eg; start, mini slalom, reverse parking, round afew cones,( just for a laugh and the spectators, park, out of car n stroke a giant scoob, back in your car) and on to the finish line, all against the clock, small fee to enter, I think that would draw a crowd.
Kids need a bouncy castle or something, and music all day, not just when the judging is taking place.
As already said, more traders (which I know is difficult).
Anyway, just a thought...
Cheers...

thank you marietto, but i must stress that credit for my car is not top of my agenda.i watched the judging from the classics onwards and felt my car was just not what they were looking for.this may upset a few people but,the subaru car type is at least 10 years behind current trends, even the ford modified scene is way ahead.it was like going back to the late nineties early twenties walking around the field.this was also apparrant with the judges being swayed with late nineties bling.i judged the cars in my mind and could only put this years winner as maybe 10th.it was imo between the p1 and the rb320.both had stance and look at me status.mind you the silly orange diffuser and painted air intake was a bit yuk! .mind you if we wait another 10 years the bling will be back in fashion again

Did anyone who entered the show & shine get to see the judges scorecards and which areas received which scores?

I'm sure most people would be interested to see what they were marked down for so they know where to make improvements to bring their cars up to a winning standard.

And I don't believe the rumour that was circulating on Sunday that a Cumbrian Scoob car sticker was worth an additional 10 points  Wink

No mate I didn't see the score cards or what they were looking for etc, would have been nice to see something. I was having a good look round car of the day (Mel hawk) clean car etc but really couldn't see why it was car of the day winner, there were cleaner examples IMO, one of which is a very clean and like new underneath hawk with bride interior in nesf, so maybe a CS sticker does help lol Wink

Wasn't Mel with Lancashire and District?

I know it's just supposed to be a bit of fun for a worthwhile cause but still I think it would have been better for you to see the scoring, otherwise how do you know what to improve on?

imo
how on earth can you judge a car in 20 seconds?.times that between the 3 of them thats a grand total of 1 minute.not one of them would look at you let alone speak to you,i felt really uncomfortable with it all.and people standing outside the ropes like naughty school kids not able to look around the cars was not a good vibe

Last year all of the newages were in the same category - Bug, Blob & Hawk all together - Mel's Hawk won that category and car of the day. At least they separated them as the category last year was huge! But like everyone has said some of the cars are hidden in dehumidified storage for 11.5 months of the year and brtrought out at show time! - I did 13,000 miles in the Terminator each year and it still looked good IMHO of course  Wink

Definitely would be nice to see what they were marking for and marking down for.

i watched the judges as i concourse judge for ford rs and vw with meguiars and kleens,i do not know the subaru ins and outs of what was required for this marque.as said above i was quite shocked as to the speed and inaccuracy of what and how it was judged be it for fun or whatever all contestants no matter how good or bad the car need the same level of commitment from the judges.to ask how cars were scored is of no use as again as said above no time was spent on the cars to give any accurate scoring pattern

Judge 1 - Engine , Bodywork.
Judge 2 - Bodywork , Interior.
Judge 3 - Wheels , Arches , Underfloor.

Don`t know which judge did what on the day ?. I will ask .

Do arches not come under the bodywork category??

IMO this year was the worst NBO ive been to with regards to the turn out, the field was empty compared to previous years. NBO used to be the main event of the year, looks like people are becoming bored with it  Sad

But is it actually judged as show and shine or something else ?

Last year I came runner up in the new Hatch/Saloon category with my car clean as a whistle and gleaming everywhere but totally bog standard, whereas the winners car (Robs white Hatch) was heavily modified but perhaps a few percent less clean (no offence Rob if you reading this, its a bloody awesome car). Neither of these cars are trailer queens.

Obviously I wasnt there this year due to my personal circumstances, but Ive been really surprised by the level of -ve feedback coming form the event. Thats a shame because the first 2 or 3 Ive went to were great days out and I can only guess how much effort is involved in hosting it.
