| OK, I'll hold my hands up, apparently the 1.3mm of tread left on the factory fitted Dunlop SP tyres is a bit marginal.
Ive taken a look on Black Circles and it recommends the following :
Dunlop SP's (again......er, no thank you)
Falken Ziex ZE-914 Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K120 Yokohama Advan Sport V105S Conti Sport Contact 5 Pirelli P Zero Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric2 Toyo T1 Sport
And a few others.
Any faves in the list above ?
Any other sites I should be perusing ?
My vital statistics are : 245/40 R18 93W adn my budget is £150 a corner (fitted)

| agree, goodyear f1 or Michelin pilot are about the best you can get as an all round road tyre, if your willing to spend £150 a corner then if it was me id be getting either of these | |

| I had pilot sports on my hawkeye and they were terrible!!!! I replaced them with a set of BF Goodrich geforce profilers and they were excellent! Bargain too from car tyre world in tudhoe. I'd highly recommend them. From experience, the Toyos dont last very long at all and the falkens werent brilliant either imo. | |

| I had Toyo T1-R's on the Blob and they were great in my eyes and many other peoples for that matter, then they got discontinued. Seems to be a lot of love for the Eagle F1 and the Michelins, but willing to consider others. Anything will be better than the Dunlop SP Sport 600 that are fitted. They are described as an extreme summer tyre and not recommended for the cold weather - no kidding. They are terrible in the wet and cold and tram line the slightest encouragement in the road something rotten. Might be great on a nice smooth warm track but not for 6 months of the year on typical uk roads. Will be glad to see the back of them, I genuinely believe they contributed to my initial dislike of the car, but I've learned to tolerate them. | |

| I've just prelaced my worn Toyo Proxies 4s with Dunlop SP Sports TTs..... much better, sidewall is rock solid which is good for me on stretched tyres! | |

The Goodyear eagles assemet are ver nice tyres. Whom's fitting them for you ? Hadn't thought about it Stick, probably Scoobycarl as he's nearby but haven't been in touch with him yet. Need to get Xmas out of the way first and car won't be going anywhere unless there is a turnout for Croft on 28th | |

| Looks like the Eagle F1 then. Next question is what's the diff between the 93Y and 97XL ratings I keep seeing. Various tyres swap around the prices. Best I've seen so far is £115 delivered (93Y) | |

Keith all you have to remember is that for insurance purposes you must match or better the spec of your OEM tyre. The higher the better. Y is the speed rating (186mph+) W is up to 168mph. XL just means extra load. Load rating index is the load each tyre can handle - 93 is 650kg, 97 is 730kg and so on Look at your handbook and it will tell you the recommended spec of your tyre - if it is 93W then any tyre with a greater number or speed rating will be fine - e.g. 93Y or 97Y, etc |

| Just a follow up on this chaps. First off many thanks for the recommendations . Ive now got a list of product that I shoudl be able to trust and can actually source for around £120 per corner. On the way home the other day I called in to see Scoobycarl ref fitting any purchase I made and he took a look at the car whilst I was there. Apparently the car would not be an MOT failure, contrary to what I was told by the dealership and has plenty of tread, even at the edges. Carl pointed out that I was no where near any of the tyre wear indicators, infact had a good 2-3mm above them in most places. His technical verdict was easy to understand - "they trying to have your pants down there mate". That said, I still think the tryes are shite and will be asking someone in the vicinity to take the car for a spin to get their opinion. But most importantly I'm legal, which is a weight off my mind as like most folks, I dont have £500 odd notes just lying about at the moment | |

| Minimum and legal tread is 1.6mm on centre 3/4, inside can be scrubbed off bald aslong as no cords are exposed. I can fit tyres up if your stuck for fitting, | |

| Cheers for the advice and the offer Stick, Carl was explaining something similar. He just laughed when I told him the garage had said they were illegal. I was pretty sure they were ok, but it was nice to get a 2nd opinion from someone who knows his onions.
That said, they'll still be coming off probably long before they are worn out as I just dont like them on the car and I do think it spoils the ride, but I'll get a 2nd opinion on that too before long.
