Aftermarket TMIC? Empty
PostSubject: Aftermarket TMIC?   Aftermarket TMIC? EmptyWed 28 Jan - 21:13

So my remap with Andy F is on the 13th... I'm getting the car sorted as much as possible that would require a a map-tweak in the future - currently have the standard Hawkeye STi TMIC... Would I benefit from an aftermarket one? I don't want to go down FMIC if I can help it... My turbo is the RCM400/450 can't remember just now haha
What bhp is the Sti IC good for?

It's going in to gipa's on the 7th for full service so any other work would be getting done then...

Hawkeye STI TMIC is easily good for 400bhp mate - I wouldn't bother upgrading. Aftermarket TMICs are expensive for a good one and at the end of the day at 400+ there is always going to be only a small improvement margin due to heat soak in the engine bay. Is that worth the extra dollars for an aftermarket TMIC? Nick's Blob STI is running 410bhp with a TMIC. I have seen a few running 430ish with a TMIC. I am sure Alan tait (ATWRX) had a big aftermarket TMIC for sale he bought in a group buy on Scottish Scoobies - cost him about £500 I think. Few on there running around 500bhp with them on.

If you have big bucks go for the Chevron TMIC, cracking piece of kit but into the £1000's mark,

Hell no!!!!

Other than full service - what else can I prep for the remap?
All hoses/clamps are tight - IVE ordered a CDF pitch mount and group n engine & gearbox mounts (I know the remap won't affect these!)

brake/gearbox & diff oils all done less than 2k ago :-)
I'll NEVER be out of reach of a Vpower station, 4 miles away from home and if needs be, I'll plan long journeys around the vpower stations so going to have both on vpower 1. 'All out' 2. 'Eco/motorway' mode, did contemplate a octane boosted map but that would require correct mixing levels which I could never replicate without seperate tanks etc

It's worth changing the plugs if they haven't been done recently, clean air filter (if its an aftermarket one, or upgrade if it isn't), it's also worth giving the intercooler a flush too....not 100% nessary but every little helps Wink

Have you got a better fuel pump fitted?

Yeah got plugs, oil, black filter, coolant for service - had the inter poker off a few weeks back to trace a few wires against the bulkhead and there was very minimal blow by thankfully and yeah - I'll gove the cone filter a clean - trying to find a pipe to run from filter straight to TB so I can get rid
Of the MAF thats by being used and clean the look of it ABIT more

Yes as Stick said, only TMIC worth going for over the OEM STI one is the Chevron (around £2k iirc), they're running cars up to 700bhp on them, but no others can improve performance enough to be worth the money. Andy Forrest is running 470bhp on an STI TMIC (or he was anyway), maybe ask him for his advice on how to get the most out your turbo since you're getting mapped by him.
