Mike's STI hatch. Empty
PostSubject: Mike's STI hatch.   Mike's STI hatch. EmptyThu 18 Jun - 1:11

after selling my blobeye WRX a couple of years ago i'm finally back in a Subaru. this time I picked up a 2008 silver STI hatchback for a bargain price because it needed some paint.

heres the only photo i have of how it was when i picked it up, to be honest it looked fine in photos and a few feet away, but up close it looked like some panels had been painted by stevie wonder.

so the front bumper, front wings bootlid and rear bumper had all been painted badly, to the point where lacquer was peeling off all over, and there was a crack in the rear bumper. the last owner was an old bloke who apparently couldn't park to save his life.

I could have had the front bumper and front wings tidied up and made do but i do like everything to be right so i ordered a few replacement panels from subaru. i like the look of the 2008 bumper but I've always preferred the more aggressive 2011+ front so I saw this as an opportunity to update the front end at the same time. thanks to a chassis number from KGT (Thanks again Keith) i was able to order everything i needed to do the swap, front bumper, grille, fog covers, and towing eye cover. while i was at it i ordered a pair of front wings because it looked like the current ones had some bodge in them.

got it back from the body shop this week, gave it a good clean and took a few pictures round the back of my work.

haven't really done much to it yet, just a few minor cosmetic and quality of life changes

•Red rear light tints
•Double din Pioneer touch screen (all wired in to work with hands free and steering controls)
•15% window tints on the back 5 windows
•Team Heko wind deflectors all round
•wrapped the gear surround in black brushed aluminium wrap (was silver)
•"square" import plates

Here's a close up of the wrap, my first attempt at vinyl wrapping and i'm pretty happy with it, i'll definitely be playing around with it a bit more.

not sure what the next plans are for it, it needs to go to andy kindon at some point for forged pistons and i want to start working on more power but that will wait til after the pistons to be on the safe side. also need some wheels soon.
