Thanks folks,
The SD1 was a project car that I had while working offshore and doing up Rovers & Range Rovers when onshore with spare time - put nearly £26,000 into this (the joys of being single, living with parents and a very disposable income - Ahhhhh).
It ended up with mega work being done on it and some spares coming from my race car as well:
Jaguar XJS Front Brakes,
Metropolitan Police Spec Rear Brakes,
Quaffe LSD,
Corvette ZR1 Manual Gearbox,
Custom Propshaft and strengthened half shafts,
Custom exhaust with tubular manifolds by Rimmer Bros & choice of backbox (sprint or top speed),
Revolution RFX Alloys Front 9x16, rear 12x16 (off of Alan Minshaw's (Demon Tweeks Owner) Chevy SS Malibu Race Car),
Mickey Thompson 345/30/16 Road Legal Drag Race Rear Tyres,
Pirelli P7f 245/40/16 Front Tyres,
Full custom adjustable Leda suspension setup including full rose jointing,
Now the Engine: I knew Peter Wheeler (TVR Owner) through the race season and he let me have one of his 4.5ltr TVR V8 engines that had been in one of his race cars, we then (with his permission) got a stroker kit fitted to it which increased the capacity to just under 5ltrs and then got two Garrett T3 turbo's from a Sierra Cosworth bolted to it.
We required a custom Kent Cam profile making for this along with extensive head and valve rework due to the extra pressure we were about to force into it.
First rolling road day showed 350bhp at the wheels but then the rolling road bearings started to burn - the RR was only tested to 300hp at the time and this run resulted in the rollers seizing up.
A few months later and a few gearboxes later we decided to try and get a very strong gearbox installed as every SD1 box we tried only seemed to last around 1500 miles and snapping mainshafts etc, I got talking to the chaps in the TWR Bastos Rover touring car team who mentioned they use a modified Corvette ZR1 gearbox in their cars - so many £'s lighter I had a ZR1 box and custom bellhousing for the car. In it went and back to the now repaired and uprated rolling road and managed to get to 386hp at the wheels before the rolling road bearings caught fire - BANNED FROM ROLLING ROAD!
Quite a fun car and after getting very bored of the power I decided to sell it as my only other option was to supercharge it as well but after many arguements with my insurers it was up for sale - Interesting period as I had many offers for swaps including Porsche 928's, BMW M5's etc, the M5 owner actually fell out of the car and threw up after a test run from Kinross services up the motorway and back in the pouring rain as I had a nice play around getting wheelspin & sliding at over ***mph.
Anyway I ended up swapping it for a 1988 Opel Manta GTE Exclusive that was built by Imscher with a Senator 3lt straight six in - rapid car.
The new owner of the car had it two weeks before he wrote it off and killed himself - overcooked it on a bend and got side swiped by a truck.
The remains of the car were bought by a chap in Germany and the car is still storming the Autobahns today - Apart from it now being black.
If anyone ever buys an SD1 you must take me for a drive down memory lane - Fantastic.
