What is a Td04 like after Remap?

Starting to buy some bits for the car and i am starting with exhaust/ panel filter etc but leaving front cat in for now and i was wondering what the car will be like after a remap if I stick with the standard turbo? Been looking at VF23/24 etc but as a starting point (and for cost coming up to xmas) would it be worh changing?

depends what youre looking for from the car mate. Jonny Gav got some pretty impressive results from his Hawkeye that had been remapped whilst still having its TD04 fitted

Just more bottom end grunt. Most of my driving is around town so just something for putting a smile on my face at the lights etc rather than top end stuff

Steve, my 04 WRX is still running on a standard turbo and my remap (from Andrew Carr) transformed the car completely. Ive got an STi intercooler and its fully decatted. I was going to do more with it, but on reflection I think what Ive got now is more than enough.
I'll probably get a map tweak for fuel soon and add the 3 port solenoid Ive got, but thats just dotting the i's and crossing the t's for me.

Its great if you can do everthing you want to do in one go, but other factors usually dictate a number of attempts. Hopefully you can agree with you mapper that the cost of future tweaks are a fraction of what you pay for your initial full map session. Albeit, changing the turbo is probably more effort than a simple tweak, so may cost you a bit more.

As a side note, I'm not sure who you are looking at for your map, but I'd certainly recommend Andrew from the work he's done on my car. I'm sure the folks on here can also recommend others for you to consider.

That must be a bloody good TD04 to get 300bhp, which rollers has he had it on?? They normally make 280-300, with the right supporting mods. The odd one gets over 300.

Although I have got a VF43 and all the extras to go on very soon

my bugeye was fully decatted, piperx filter, walbro pump, standard turbo,intercooler and injectors and mapped by dynamix and it was like a different car compared to when i got it. there was almost no lag and it gave u a massive shove between 2k til about 4 then started to tail off a bit but guess thats the trade off of using a small turbo.
more than enough to keep a smile on my face.
until i sold it cos my insurance had gone through the roof!!!

Thanks for advice every1 and now things have changed because i had a few strange noises from my td04 so bought another but when i went to pick it up it turns out to be a Vf23 but because he didnt know just sold it as a standard Wrx turbo so now got to decide whether to sell it or fit it

Yeah, when Duncan maps it he just won't push the boost up too high.

The standard injectors on the v3 sti that the turbo comes from only had 440cc injectors fitted as standard, your injectors are 420cc so you ain't far away.

Your injectors are good for just over 300bhp with standard fuel pressure so its got to be worth fitting.
