my pal has asked me to ask for some info... basically he wants to build a 2.5 motor using a non turbo block .. 1;are there any parts he can use from the non turbo engine (eg,crank etc ..) 2;how much to build just an average horsepower 350/400 hp
this engine will be built on a budget so if any1 has some prices as a guide that would be appreciated ..
cheers guys

looked into this for mine and its not easy, yes the blocks are the same but the non turbo internals would have to be changed or they'll not last five minutes, by the time I finished adding everything up its cheaper to just buy another car!! sorry to be the bearer of bad news
who was i that said 350 -400bhp could be had for 800quid???? im guessing it was snoop-dougy-doug whilst clamping tight onto a can of special brew!! if carlsberg did cars they wud come out of the kellogs box armed with 600bhp+.......(home built with awld ej cdb block) the worrrrxxxx
and im not just having a random dig there. he (allegedly) re-built my old version 6 sti heads including re-shimming/ re-grinding the valves (four of which were replaced) and when i finally got the engine back together and in i turned it over just to realise it was holding no compression in one of the cylinders. when i took it to bits (im not a mechanic but have general knowledge of mechanics) i couldnt believe the state of the exhaust valve he had tried to grind in! was literally polished on one side of the contact point and not touching with the head with the other side as it was sitting right on the p*ss!! im guessing he was too skint to do a leak test with 50p's worth of unleaded before sending them back to me. if only i hadve known then what i do know now them heads wudnt have gone near my car. what an embarrssment and waste of my time/money as the heads cost me again to get (properly) re-built! good luck to you phil with your 600bhp buld mate. i would love to see it happen for you but if you get there (with the help of a certain subaru specialist) i suggest you get an upgraded bank account with breakdown cover ;ike i have as it came in handy for me at the recent rolling road day lol ;-)
