Subject: tappets or lifters Wed 2 Nov - 13:32
i have what sounds like tappet noise on start up its there for about 5 mins then goes away just wondering if any one knows how much a set would be for 96 classic ej20 and how big ajob it is im guessing engine out and belts off kind of job cheers jonesy

more likely to be piston slap mate
this is very common on the earlier engines, and is nothing too worry about at all

if the noise goes away when its warm it is normal mate

A rebuild ;-) new pistons. Piston slap is common on alot of classics. Turn ya radio up for 5 mins and forget about it!

yeah i had guessed that mate and radio no help lol i no its there lol well hope me new car gets here soon then i can start to rebuild this classic

Thats abit drastic :-O I have had 2 classics with quite noisey piston slap only once have i resorted to a rebuild but then again i did blow that one up!

yeah it was in me plans anyway just waiting on me lease car from work mate got insurance cover note monday so shudnt be long or and carnt leave things alone lol
