What are peoples views on the new PM?
The bloke has a good bit confidence and can talk the talk. I suppose the proof is in the pudding like.
Never the less I reckon the country will be in for a shake up.

Completely gutted, Tory government was hell last time for 'normal' people like me who are not well off. Really worries me. Read the manifesto cover to cover for all 3 parties (previously studied politics so geeky like that) and nothing in their attitude has changed. At least there isn't much left for them to sell off. Really feel for those who will be effected directly by the huge job cuts he planned in the North East. Also feel sorry for the liberal voters who've been even more let down by their party leader, don't think they thought if they voted Clegg he'd become Cameron's new puppet.

It is scarey to think that these are the people who decide how we all live. The Conservatives have always been about the rich, i'll be interested to see how Nick Clegg plays his part.

Agreed Jonny, they screwed the working class when there wasn't a recession ........ at least there isn't much they can sell off Rolling Eyes

At least we'll only have to put up with them for one term, I can't see anyone putting up with them for longer, then they'll be out before my boys need employment which is a relief

Having no children I dont burden the education system
Having private healthcare paid for by my employer (on which Im taxed) I dont burden the NHS
We own, tax, MOT, fuel & insure 4 cars at great expense
We pay Barneys creche fees with no help from the government
I pay 40% tax on my salary and cant claim any benefits

The government does nothing but tax car owners and higher than average paid people whilst rewarding those who dont bother to work with houses & benefits and I for one am fed up with paying into a society that gives nothing back to me.

I plan to retire when Im 55 and as an accountant have worked out how to do this given the government wont pay me a state pension till im 67!!!!

Ive worked since I was 16 and always paid my taxes so how am I entitled to the same pension as some body who has never worked or who has had benefits in the form of tax credits etc paid to them. Why cant I be rewarded for not having kids??? If I moved to India would I be welcomed with a free health service, house and cash to feed & clothe myself? Like bollocks would I

Majorly fucked off with this country who evers running it and in my opinion all politicians are as bad as each other, MP's expenses - need I say anymore!!!!

Agree. I pay more tax than my parnter gets in wages. She benefits from the Tax Credit scheme as we have 2 children.

Haha essay alert............

Getting nothing back from it depends how you look at it. I see it as I was educated in a local school not a private school until I was 16, I used medical care until I was 16, well no sometimes private through what my Dad paid for but I did have a GP, then private for 5 years then back to NHS.

So working 3 jobs from 16 (worked earlier but pt) I could justify it as I had used so was repaying that. My car taxes and fuel costs are too high, don't reflect our usage but I do also need roads to drive on etc. I might not feel like the police force, fire service, prison service, army, navy, RAF etc work directly in my interest or for me but I'd hate not to have one. When I used private health care my family members still needed NHS care and I would have hated it not to be there for them, or indeed myself when I needed it. So regardless of how much I paid in taxes each year, I can justify why I contributed even when I had no children and didn't need to see my GP etc. I see it as more of paying an insurance than a tax......easier to swallow.

Suppose I am one of those burdons now again, we have 2 children who both need specialist support in school and have needed time from the local health service. We rent our home from the council. I suppose part of me tries to justify what we use by the many hours of voluntary work I do in schools, charities, voluntary sector etc and my partner works to support us. I'm not working now in paid employment, but I do plan to in the future. Unfortunately I would have to just pay out in childcare if I was which would wipe out wages I could earn. Trying to explain to an employer how much time you need off when your children have special needs, well that puts them off a bit but as they get older I am hoping the needs will reduce and we're already considering their future and what they can do to support themselves. Pretty big hopes but hoping it will be possible. I've worked many hours with the local NHS and local authority managing with others to save them probably a couple of million, so suppose that all helps. As parents we're looking at having volunteer therapy assistants in schools to save them money next, something that seems insane but they know they are going to have so much less to provide services with and we need therapies for our kids.

Whichever party got into power there wasn't going to be alterations made on those who work abroad (that depends how much time you spend here) car taxes with this government and fuel costs will likely increase. My thoughts are more is going to be pay as you use, but taxes will stay the same or increase. I hope this is not the case. However I am not rich enough to not care.

My memories of a Tory rule are having Grandparents who couldn't get treatment they needed in hospital (Grandad was ex navy so not well off) armed forces being cut back, closures of mines, selling off of many government ran services (which end up costing more and reducing jobs) single parents struggling to make ends meet (and made to feel like scum) poll tax and it's associated nightmares including people locked up for not paying, amongst others.

We could go onto a pay as you use service as the USA have but there are still some services like police, fireservice etc there would be a charge for so would still need some form of taxation. My friends have her parents living with her now who had to come back from the USA when their company folded and they were left nothing to retire on. So I can understand where it doesn't work.

The economic disaster wasn't the governments fault, it would have happened no matter who was in power. It didn't start here but the blatently stupid lending didn't help. Whichever government was in would have had to just try to deal with it and would have looked terrible.

But of course all of that is just my opinion Smile they always say friends shouldn't discuss politics.

Some very good points there. We all have an opinion at the end of the day. I suppose this "CHANGE" will suit some people but not all people.

Opinion and freedom of speech are something we have, for now Laughing

Oh with the council house thing, I'd rather do that than rent privately as it's profitable for the local government, my home has more than paid for itself and is now giving them profit, than a ridiculous sum of money to a private landlord as we were as she didn't look after the property at all. It's a shame when they are sold to the housing associations to make money on as then nothing is going back into local government for their investment. We chose to rent and I am pleased we do for many reasons.

I don't agree with people not paying into society in their life time, but it's how you change that culture (as there are generations of them) that is important. At the minute there are little jobs available for the working class man, or even those middle class but having less of them, especially in the north east and not promoting growth is bad. Attitude change towards those who do less high power, but still meaningful roles is also important as they are the ground force of the country but people are less willing to do those jobs because they feel less valued. Nothing worse than putting in the same or more graft than someone else without being recognised. That's where things like pay conditions for the armed forces makes me sick. Tax credits went in to help people feel valued no matter which employment they had. They have no other choice but to deal with the multi party MP expenses scandalous mess, but like in everything where there is loop holes someone will take tax payers money and not pay their share on it. If I give back to society as a volunteer therapist, like with my other roles it won't be valued including financially but what I get from voluntary work is knowing I am 'paying it back' for what I use.

In my opinion we can only hope 'change' as it's being done now is done with Lib Dem original values and not Conservative or the only ones to benefit from change will be the wealthy.

It's all an opinion thing I suppose.....

Laughing Ok who started talking about politics.... Rolling Eyes
