| just been reading about people out of work. i was just wondering if there was anybody like me that cant work ( f**ked back)
i am on incapacity benefit (£318 every 2 weeks ) and i still run a scooby and the wife has a astra.
i find it hard to do what i want to on my car but i get there in the end just takes more looking for cheaper parts
the main thing i was wondering about is there anyone else able to run and mod there scoobys like me and if there is how do they do it.

| Mine is lower mate, took me a good year after me op before I would say I was able to not think about it, had it done between Xmas and new year in 2002/3, still have bother when it's cold but nothing compared to the pain I was in before hand.
I know what yas are going though, wouldn't wish it on anyone. | |

| I've got spinal problems too - had cervical anterior discectomy C5/C6 & C6/C7 with fusion and titanium cage put in. Also have problems with my lumbar spine (which they are reluctant to touch or it could leave me in a wheelchair) and have regular epidurals etc via the pain management unit along with my boat load of medications (have more than Boots have on their shelves I think at times and I'm sure i'm beginning to rattle lol). Also have alot of other medical problems which I had previously to the spinal problems. I lost my job after working there for 11.5 years for being off sick!! - successfully hauled them over the legal coals though and they settled out of court You get no medals for working and suffering, although it is very boring being at home all the time - especially when there's not much you can be doing while you are at home! However, you do feel 'normal' going out to work and it does make you feel better at times because you've made the effort and managed. It's down to personal choice at the end of the day .. but you would qualify for back to work grants etc and the extra £40 a week for a year if you do go back - the jobcentre have disability specialists/pathways advisors to help advise you with what you can do etc to get back into work if that's what you choose. Not quite sure how your money is made up .. so can't help with what else you might be able to get help with :-) |

| We sound like a right load of old fogies on here don't we lol Best of it was I woke up with my neck like that .. woke up at 5.30am when Paul went out to work and was fine, went back to sleep .. woke up at 7.30am for me to go to work and couldn't move .. very scary and bloody painful too. Took them over a year at the Drs to give me an MRI and then when they did it was treated as an emergency! I had even been paying for physiotherapy and manipulation privately myself to try and ease the pain but that could have paralysed me from the neck down if the prolapsed disc had touched my spinal cord any more than it was already!! - I later found out. Still get a lot of pain and have permanent nerve damage/weakness in my arms from it - first op to remove c6/c7 and then had to have a second op to remove c5/c6 which they'd left hoping it wouldn't cause any problems .. but it did |
