Exhaust without remap Empty
PostSubject: Exhaust without remap   Exhaust without remap EmptyWed 13 Jun - 21:29

Hi, after falling off motorbikes for 2 years I've decided to buy another Scooby. (Mrs C still isn't speaking)

I've seen a blobeye Sti on the Internet with a Prodrive PPP kit and it looks tidy.

Problem is the owner has put a 3" turbo back decat on it without a remap. I think this isn't ideal but would it have caused any damage?

Buy or stay clear?

Regards

Rob Charlton.

wont have caused any damage fitting a de-cat mate.

may show CEL light due too lamba seeing alot more flow, but this can be sorted via a cheap adaptor.

just do the normal checks ie=

listen for bottomend knock

look for cheap ebay rubbish parts fitted

who serviced it and what engine oil has been used

etc etc

Be careful with uk spec STI 7 & 8's that have a full 3" system and no remap, the VF35 they have fitted boost creeps in high gears at high revs, have seen them hit 1.6 bar!

If the guy that owns it doesn't do top speed runs it will be fine, if he does the engine could have suffered from excessive heat.

If it was my money I would walk away.

When I first got a 3" system on mine I hit fuel cut and over boosted its tits off!! Needed a Map straight away... SO find out how long it's been fitted for?

Is that the same with a PPP. From memory is there a different ECU in the pack?

Yeah the ecu has a different map but it doesn't stop the turbo from creeping at the top end.

To be on the safe side get the car checked with a wide band and a set of det cans.

Cheers Jonny.

I'll take a look and listen. See what it's like.
