I have a chance of buying a WR1. What dya reckon?

2004 reg, 80k miles with full Subaru history. Completely standard. Owned by a business analyst, and previously by a local councillor. £6500 Ono

Only problem is that it's got a few scratches and scrapes on it and a scuff on the rear bumper. I think most would come out with a machine polish, but the rest would require more work.

Is it worth it?

WR1's are gorgeous - £6.5K is a great price. I'd get it well checked over though and go through paperwork with great attention to detail.

Hold on a second, when I said I could buy an STI for £4500, but walked you said I should have bought it, even though I saw with my own 4 eyes that it was a steaming pile of turd.

Double Standards Razz

This WR1 is only £500-£1k less than the cheapest ones around, but has more miles on it.

Don't know where you've been looking at them but this is the cheapest one on the Autotrader.

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201301285089546?atmobcid=soc4

And this the second cheapest

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201211234363877?atmobcid=soc4

So I would be wary of why they are selling it that cheap when it could be sold for more, would get it checked over by someone who knows them well if your thinking of buying it.

That's some good advice from Baldy, like he says if you like it you buy it. But check it thoroughly 1st.

The steaming pile of turd STi you looked at had 47K on the clock and it was 2.5K less than the WR1 with 80K on the clock yes it was a shed I know.
Anyway I shouldn't really comment on this because I don't like the WR1s much I think they are over rated and extremely underpowered considering they are the flagship impreza..

They do seem a bit overpriced for what they are but still have the fastest 0-60 time of any standard factory Impreza

I know but the newage STi has so much more potential than 320bhp..
Are they faster than the Cosworth hatch ??

The 0-60 time on paper is faster than the cosworth hatch if that's what you mean.

Don't know why the 0-60 time is so quick on the Wr1 though as like you say it only has 320bhp or has it got lower gear ratios or somethink to make it accelerate quicker.

So the gearboxes in the Wr1 are different to other scoobs then, bet them boxes fetch silly money then if anyone breaks a Wr1 and sells the parts.

Not sure if all the ratios differ and all bloody bits are expensive lol
And don't think the stig set the time but if he did it would've been in mine fpmsl and the last time he drove it he made a complete arse of it Smile

The wr1 is a loverly car to be inside of with the black interior instead of the standard blue. They are loverly cars and yes are a limited edition.... Even more since I killed mine Sad but saying that there are stis out there which will easily be as good if not better. The decision you have to make is.... Do you want a limited edition? If you do I'd rather pay a premium and buy a stunner. Good ones are doing about 10k although saw one on pistonheads for 15.5k running 460ish but he's open to sensible offers I believe. I personally loved my wr1 but hated leaving it anywhere as they stick out more than a normal sti due to colour. The choice is yours mate, I've had one and decided to go for a widetrack blob this time round

Always wanted a WR1 (before I got fixated with RB320's.) Love to see/hear Rooters car floating around, I think they are gorgeous and have a fantastic road presence.

People say they are overpriced but I think other owners will tell you they are glad they spent the money. Personal value and cost price do not always correlate. Its what its worth to you that matters, not necessarily what it says on the ticket. Thats why you might be prepared to pay more than someone else on here.

As the boys have said, do your homework and be prepared to walk away from something you are not 100% convinced by.
