my combo van returned between 50 and 60 round the doors, only prob I had with the van was the drivers carpet was soaked, found out the fault was the seal between the brake servo and bulkhead, apart from that no probs

50-60 mpg Shocked out of a 1.3cdti that does not seem very good at all, I used to have a 2.2tdci mondeo st and could get 55mpg out of that, will a van with a 1.3cdti actually move if it was fully loaded up can imagine it having enough power.

I've had the older astra 2.0 diesel (same engine in vectra c) and averaged 52 mpg. Mixed driving - mainly town though. New ones must be better?

thats guess work from the trip meter, the clio 1.5dci does about 55 round the doors so wouldnt say that was to far off considering it was a 1.3 van, combined consumption is stated around 61.4mpg mixed for a 1.7 and 50 mixed for the 1.3, so could be less, personally for courier work the bigger the engine the better, bigger engines would obviously have less strain on the engine so would be better mpg under load, drew has just had an ex PO 1.7 van with 178,000 on the clock, it had a hard life but engine still sounded sweet

The 1.3 cdti and 1.9 cdti's are Fiat engines fella. The only real killer on them is the EGR valve, not badly priced and can be stripped amd cleaned etc if required but they are a pain in the bum to do. The only other real issue's we've had with them is the odd ones have had injector issues.

Good cracking motors though, 50+mpg is easy...

yup. had to clean the egr valve out on mine, but seems to be the norm with most diesels, same with the clio

so the 1.7 is the best one for mpg ?? Majority ov the parcels i deliver are letters/ docucments/

am still confused on what too buy ???

on some forums they say stick with the 1.7 dti as the do excellent mpg and go forever

and theres loads ov ppl saying they get 50 mpg if the lucky then loads ov ppl saying the get nearly 70 mpg ???

am so confused on what too buy ???

the van i have now is doing 45-48 mpg on a run..

in the last 3 days ave done 1900 mile so a better mpg van is needed asap....

and dont need a van as big as i have (peugeot expert)..

a small van will do vauxhall combo etc

then av just seen a can get a brand new peugeot bipper what does 65.8 mpg combined ???

but that means a need too pullout for a brandnew van and might hate the job after a few month ?????

confused....com... lol

The 1.9 150 is far and away the best for MPG, especially when tuned, but people know that so they command good money, especially the Sportive SE. With a 1.9 the EGR can block easily which if left to its own devices will destroy the boost pressure sensor, swirl flaps and inlet manifold. People complain about the M32 gearbox but they only have problems if they arent looked after, using the wrong gearbox oil or not replacing it as per the service schedule is the biggest issue. The 1.9 won't have a DPF.

The 1.9 120 comes in two variants, 8v and 16v. The 16v is the 150 engine above with a restrictive map so has the same positives and negatives. The bonus is that you can easily lift the restriction and have a 150 van for 120 money. There were not many made and only on early models. The 8v is a solid engine which will easily tune up to 170. The gearbox is shared with the 150 but the EGR and inlet systems are different so dont suffer the same issues.

The 1.3 is a solid engine and can be easily tuned to give far more power and economy than you have any right to expect. No major issues with these other than the EGR and DPF (if fitted) just like every other diesel in the world.

When it comes to 1.7's you have to specify output. A 100 engine is likely to be an old Isuzu dti unit with a reworked common rail system bolted on. These are virtually indestructible but cant be tuned very much. MPG is pretty good. The lower spec 80ps and higher 110/125ps units are GM units and can all be tuned very easily. None of the 1.7's suffer major common issues, but aren't very lively. Definitely a workhorse engine.

Also, if you aren't that bothered about claiming it as a commercial vehicle, contemplate the estate as it is the same body and engines but with extra doors and a lower price tag

My dad has a 1.3cdi Corsa, on the daily runs you do he'd expect high 60's mpg, even into 70's, great Frugal little engine and pretty nippy up to 70, after that it doesn't struggle, but certainly doesn't accelerate the same as under 70. I cruise at 80 in it no problem at all, only thing I've found about vauxhalls is that it feels like you're sitting on top of the car when driving, it's that height.....or that may be because I drive a 350Z every day at the moment.
