I can't remember exactly how it works, but you need something like 3 to 4 times the power to get to 200 than you need to get to 150 due to the various drag exerted on the car. Aero, rolling etc.

So if you need 200bhp to get to 150mph, you would need in region of 600 - 800bhp to hit 200mph.

I won't be far off then Smile 600-650 ish 8500rpm limit

But it takes more than 200bhp to hit 150mph in a Scoob due to the brick-like aerodynamics, that was just an example of how it works.

What are the gear ratios and final drive ratio? Also what size wheels do you have? I'll tell you what you're geared up for and if 200 would be possible.

makes sense then lol, didnt realise these 6 speeds do so high speed:-)

They don't, see explanations above. Just because a car is geared for a speed, doesn't mean it will do it unless its as aerodynamic as a pin.

I've designed a car from the ground up, it's geared for 350+mph, it'll max out at around 210mph because of the drag and power in it. That's basing the engine on a lightly modded LS7 unit.

A 400bhp hawkeye Sti on a std 6 sp will do 175-180mph there tail geared a lot better than the earlier 6 sp's.
There's quite a few run very close to 2 ton at Elvington 1km on std hawk 6sp

I don't doubt it mate, I'm sure yours would be close to double ton, was just trying to explain that gearing actually means bot all unless you have the power to push it there.

If you look at how it works, it's an exponential curve, ie not directly proportional. Even taking what you've said above, power up from 270? To 400 to increase vmax to 175-180 from 160ish. That's power increased by 48% to increase speed by 10%

What are the gear ratios and final drive ratio drew? I'm interested to know now Very Happy

What's the final drive ratio? Must be quite tall if they're the sorts of speeds you're looking at?

I did 177 on the 1km at elvington a couple of years ago in the hawkeye and was told that's all the gearbox would do.

The new cars are unnervingly quiet and solid by comparison, even to my old Blob which would start to unhinge at the speeds you quote. I drove the Hatch back from Lanark the other day and gave it a wee test, at same speeds it was almost serene. The only sound I could hear was my bum hole trying to eat the Recaro Shocked Laughing
