Definitely two different maps. Andy Forrest explained to me that the ECU can contain two different maps, one for automatic cars, one for manual. He alters the manual one for high boost for example, then gives you access to the automatic setting, which he alters for the low boost.

Saves subaru having to make two different ECU for the same type of car.

No give him a hollar, see what the crack is as it was about 7 years ago when he explained to me, but was along those lines. I'd like to know for sure too.

New I had read about this on another post somewhere, Jonny Gav explains it in this post, so it isn't 2 different maps

Right I've just sent Andy F a question on it, as like I said, it was about 7 years ago when he explained it to me. I'm sure he said it was two maps, but I could well be wrong. Will wait and see what his response is.

Is the difference obvious if I have 2 maps? From what I've read, 4th gear, foot flat, hit demister twice. Ill either see an increase or decrease in power or nothing?

Ok, got a response from Andy Forrest:

My question:
Hi Andy, just a quick question for you.
I and a few forum members would like clarification about the high/low maps which you add to the ecu.
Do you add two maps to the ecu or does the lower powered setting only reduce the boost pressure?
Can you please explain how it works?

His response:
It will vary by year and model, for example, the 04Sti will have different initial wastegate, maximum wastegate tables and boost target by TPS and RPM maps, the 06 onwards have a lot more options.

So to me, it would seem that it's a bit of both, not quite two maps, but also a bit more involved then just lowering the boost. Edging toward two actual maps for the Hawkeye cars as they can obviously have a lot more done to them with that racerom thingy.
