Tyre fitting Empty
PostSubject: Tyre fitting   Tyre fitting EmptyThu 23 Aug - 10:16

The place I used to use for getting my own tyres fitted has decided to up his prices and wants £15 a corner, I have another place who'll do them for £10 each but just wondered if anyone knows anywhere cheaper. I'm in Darlington but going through to Teesside this afternoon?

Cheers

Walkers used to, that's who's bumped their priced up to £15, it looks like the owner works in there a lot now and he's bumping his prices up. Dave turnbulls on Albert Hill is probably the cheapest now!

I think there price is "from". So even though tho it takes pretty much the same effort to change a 13" tyre as it does an 18". When I asked for a price he said £15 each, when I said £20 cash he said no I can't do that, and his exact words were, "this is just getting stupid" I assumed he was referring to people brining there own tyres to be fitted! I said forget it and turned on my heels. I know some places are charging £1 per inch. When I wanted 4 of my own 18" ones fitting on my old ST200 Tyrespot wanted £72 to do all 4!!!

Go them done at Dave Turnbulls and once my post count is up I'll advertise the old ones as they might be of some use to someone!

The tyre places must be getting pretty hacked off as internet purchases are taking the profit margin out of the tyres + fit services that such garages used to enjoy. At some point I can see places like that saying, "you bought them, you fit them yourself bonny lad"

Thankfully we've got places like Car Tyre World in Tudhoe who will not take your eyes out on the whole deal and therefore get recommended on here.

Thing is tho, there must be some profit out of fitting tyres. Take what I had done today, tyre fitting place was empty, I rock up, 2 tyres fitted, no parts used apart from a few weights then hand over £20 in cash to the boss of the garage. Thats £20 I'm pretty sure the VAT man wont see. If he had tried to charge me £30 I would have walked away and him and his helper would have stood around doing nothing. In my eyes they are getting money for nothing, obviously if they are busy I understand as they don't want to keep customers waiting who are buying £200 worth of tyres!

Just my opinion tho
