I swapped my std headunit for an Alpine today and it seeps to be a bit much for the standard speakers. Does anyone have a good experience of any particular aftermarket speakers ? I think it is 6.5"/17cm with spacers for the size ? Also if I buy speakers with a built in tweeter can I just disconnect the factory tweeter up by the door handle?
All opinons (including retailers) appreciated.
Thanks, Steve

6.5" is correct. Rainbow, Hertz, Focal if your budget will stretch. Good old Alpine if it won't. Should be able to pick up a Hertz component set with crossover for about £80-90 and you can spend plenty more if you want. I'd do that rather than go full range as much better sound stage, but single speakers start out a bit cheaper. Get the system amped if you can rather than running off the HU and look to add a sub at some point. You won't regret it.
Places like Car Audio Direct often have clearances sales online but their list prices aren't bad either. Enjoy. I might even have some spacers kicking about if you lucky.

Thanks Keith - sounds like good advice. Looks like a bit of research into crossovers and amps will be needed if I go that way. Not worried about swopping speakers but some of that sounds a bit more involved. What sort of improvement would I get by just buying some better quality speakers just powered by the head unit ?
I will look up car audio direct tomorrow.

Thanks Finn. Let me know what they are when you get chance - might be worth a go to see if they are better as a direct swop.

Youd get a better sound plugging the Alpine into a bowl of custard versus the standard door speakers. Any upgrade to them will be better, and a Finn vouched for replacement will be better still. Take a good look at them when they are out and you'll see what I mean

Agree, when you get those flappy bits of cardboard that are an excuse for speakers out you will see how bad they are!
Anything you put in will be an improvement.
