It's back ...

Well I picked the hatch up last night from Andy's (cheers fella) and god I've missed it. Even though I've gotta drive it like a fanny for a 1000 mile it still feels great

Nice one, you'll be itching to give it some boost, but you'll have to be a good boy.

Must be the worse feeling ever. Having it back all sorted but having to drive sensible. arrrrrr.

Who set this '1000 mile' run in rule up ? Always thought about it, I appreciate things need to settle in etc ... I have built plenty engines at work but always been curious,

Because I've gone with a full rebuild and not just pistons it needs the 1000 mile (Advised by Andy.) If it was just pistons I could have got away with 500

Yeah, I understand when a full build is done its longer,

I meant, who/when did the 1000 miles come into the figures. Who set's this as the bench mark ?! I know most builders now say to use this as a guide line and keep it under 2500rpm, so who started it..

Ahh Andy Kindon but not sure if it was recommended from anyone else to him I.E manufacturers of pistons etc

Every engine builder has there own method of running in a new engine as far as am aware.

Yeah, its like a 'rule of thumb' I guess, I normally say below 3000 rpm and 1000-1200 miles then oil and filter change and then going easy (ish)

When we get engine at work, the manufacturer says 500-800 miles run in/steady period..

Well that's a canny Xmas present that's for sure! That 1k mile will be done in no time.

I heard though that the Honda vtecs for them to be at there best like 600 mile gentle 600 mile having there heads kicked in then 600 gentley and then 600 head kicked in and that's when they come to their strongest

I've heard of people doing stuff like that where they go easy then hard (excuse the phrase) and it makes for a 'loose' engine (or woman) allowing it to give good power... sounds bollocks to me . I'll just be sticking with my slowly slowly slowly ...mapping day ..... fast fast fast

1000 miles driving off boost sounds like punishment to me haha, I can guarantee you will have at least 10 cars up ya arse wanting a race in the running in period and you cant do bot all and it will drive you up the wall   

I'm gonna get a sticker saying 'running in leave me alone' for the back window

     

Me and hutchy done the same with your cars god was I hard I was dying to get the right foot down but didn't I had the corsa and Clio boys bombing past me arhhh hated it but I used it all the time to run the 1000 miles up

Plenty of varied driving keep it under 4k & motorway running in is a no no IMO. But i'm sure AK has advised you already. Happy motoring bud.

Heartside good run out would put a few hundred miles on if you do the senic route.

I've gotta go to leeds and back on Thursday and Friday need to figure out and alternative route
