| Got my renewal from Greenlight Insurance due on 13th April for the Type R - all modifications declared and 358 bhp = £399.50
Called them up told them that on 9th April I had more modifications going on the car and an expected power hike to around maximum of 450 bhp. They came back with a new renewal of £444
Meanwhile I called A-Plan who I was previously insured with and the best they could do was £555
I called Gary Moulson at Keith Michaels and I got to speak to the man himself after 3 years of trying! Emailed him my spec sheet with every modification and expected power output and he came back with a price of £340 fully comp, like for like replacement including all modified parts and with my NCB mirrored from my daily driver Skoda Fabia VRS (19 years!!!)
He also took the time to explain that he would not put me with an insurer just for the sake of saving me an extra £20 or £30 if that insurer was one of those who would pay out the minimum they could get away with in the event of any claim. It was all about appreciating the time and money put into the car and making sure that I would get a fair payout in the event of a claim - Really good service from him in that respect.
So in the last 4 years I have been insured with:
1. Sky Insurance 2. A-Plan 3. Greenlight 4. Keith Michaels
So the moral of the story is don't just accept your renewal. Shop around and get quotes off the others before you renew. If you have a modified car use the specialist modified car insurers such as the 4 above - there are more, such as Adrian Flux, but those are the main specialist insurers. |

I thought no claims can only be put on 1 car only.

No mate - Some insurers will mirror the NCB you have on another car whilst you build up the NCBon the 2nd one, which in effect allows you the same NCB as you have on your primary vehicle. Greenlight mirrored it last year for me and Keith Michaels have done the same this year. |

Iain - I just told them Greenlight mirrored my full NCB for the Type R and they said they were happy to do the same. My renewal from Greenlight says 1 Years NCB, but they have priced it as if I have a full 9 years NCB which is the maximium you can earn (even though I have 19 years NCB). When I first got the Type R I already had insured the Skoda with my Full NCB and was going to cancel that and transfer the NCB to the Type R as the Skoda was only £146 fully comp and I knew the Type R would be loads more expensive. But Greenlight said not to do that and they would mirror the NCB on the Skoda to the Type R whilst I built up the NCB. |

| When you think about it, its logical. You are either a good risk or a bad risk, a good driver or a shite one. Regardless of how many cars you have, the results should be linear.

I tried to use my full no claims from my Vectra on my classic but Gary Moulson told me I could only use my maximum no claims on 1 car Ive just renewed mine in Feb as well Do you think it might be worth phoning up Mario? I don't want to potentially spoil things for you.
