depending what year. the classic has its own by far the best reader

I bought one of these. OK its not exactly pro / garage level, but its worked fine for me, helping me diagnose faults and clearing the codes when Ive fixed things. Im sure other people will have some alternative recommendations. To some extent it probably depends on how much cash you have at your disposal, there are plenty to choose from.

yup plug the 2 black connectors with a single wire going to them under the dash together then look at the engine management flash

tells you the code slow flashes = 10
fast flashes = 1
