| Exactly, you get what you pay for. Something to do with inferior parts I would guess. I bought a TD05 18g off ebay from JA Warehouse last year for less than £500. Just had it fitted last week, the car is away for a remap next week to see if it pulls OK. Apparently the JAW 18g is quite good. I'll soon find out next week......... . | |

| be careful what you buy, as there some total rubish out there.
and some ov them are that bad build quality they have been known too fall to pieces and take out the engine.

| Thanks for the replies so far.
There is a massive difference in price between turbos calling themselves 20g etc. What type do you recommend, from where etc.
I'm planning on a set of Finns headers too, with other suggested supporting mods. what do you recommend?
Spec so far - MY06 2.5 STI, 3" de-cat, K&N panel filter, Walbro pump, Dynamix remap on stock internals.
Thanks

Rob All depends on what power you want bud. I reckon your OE turbo should be good for at least 350+.

| Hoping for 400/400 if at all possible without a rebuild | |

| If you are looking for a 20g that will give 400/400 then steer clear of ebay as the 20g's on there will not get you that, you will need a genuine 20g using a genuine mitsubishi tdo6 cover and compressor wheel. I am sure Alyn at AS performance has a genuine one in his glass cabinet (from Andy Forrest) would imagine it will be around the £800 mark though. The problem is mitsubishi have stopped making the tdo6 compressor wheel and cover so they are not available any more.
The JAW 18g is a good 380bhp turbo, it produces the same amount of power as their 20g.
be careful pushing the standard 2.5 over 400bhp though, the piston clearances are very tight on the 2.5 engine and generally break the ring lands at this sort of power, if you do go for it you would be better off fitting forged pistons with a larger clearance before pushing the engine that far.

| Thanks for the comprehensive update Johnny.
Can a good 20g be fitted with say, headers, injectors and a map tweek, and ran safely without a forged rebuild?

| I have a Hawkeye STI, your VF43 will get you near to 400/400 I was running 393/410 out of mine, with a 3" exhaust, K&N Panel Filter, Headers and Front Mount (that was only fitted for the future to get me where I am now). As Jonny says, your main problem is the 2.5 run very tight clearences on the bores and normally the first thing to go is the head gasket at that power level. There are quite a few that have gone on here around the 370/380 mark so be aware.
To run 400/400 safely I would recommend a forged bottom end, but its really depends on what power you want to run long term.

| So a set of Finns headers and a map tweek is about as far as I should go on stock internals then?
At the moment I just can't justify ( or afford ) a forged rebuild.

| I Agree with the above. I know a few people trying to push 400/400 out of a newage 2.5 and there engines are been rebuilt! No point cutting corners when modifying! If i was you id upgrade internals whilst you still have a block to upgrade them into. Be cheaper in the long run | |

| Looks like Finn has a new customer for a set of ported headers then. Far cheaper, Mrs Charlton will be pleased with that Thank you all for the advice | |
