The first time I asked anything on here and info I got was bang on so thank you. If only I had took the oil filler cap off with the engine running before I bought the car. No need for a compression test, could fit a hose to the oil filler pipe and drive a windy pick.
Need to decide if I'm putting a new engine in it or breaking it.

Tbh mate tha worth fuk all without the engine. Best of just putting another engine in or repairing. My offer still stands like 4 decent rods here and 2 pistons from a wrx

I think a working engine is going to be better in this case than trying to repair this one. It honestly looked like the oil filler was the exhaust. By the time I get new rings and then I'll probably need to do the shells and then what state is the crank going to be in..... I have a feeling that the list might just keep going on with this engine. Hopefully I will be able to find a pretty reasonable condition replacement engine for about £500 and swap them over. What worries me is the picking one that is going to be okay and the right spec.

I get what you mean, I didn't know if uk and imports had same gear on or if mounts or ancillaries changed depending on year. Daft things like the maf on my vectra seems to have a plug that was only used for about 2 years. Or some had a separate throttle body and tps and some combined and depending which one changed the mount on the inlet manifold. I have lots to learn. Lol

All classic ancillarys are the same near enough. You just need a replacement bare longblock and put your ancilarys onto it bud manifold ect

Few on EBAY bud for sensible monies, Drew/Gipa/Finn may be able to source engine cheaps. Also there's a afew breakers on SN that could help out,
Get an engine in and keep it, it'll be worth it.

Sorry to hear this Steve..You may be better off just trying again with a different car as you will also have to rectify whatever it was that caused this to happen.. Whatever it was.
