| my oil pump went on my car 5 months ago and the engine died so i bought a recon engine for £1280 and had mitsubishi fit it for £850, about a month later the rear crank seal went so took it back to mitsi and they kindly took £300 off me to fix it. Yesterday i noticed an oil leak so had them pick the car up this morning and this is the report they emailed me; Mitsubushi L200 K**DYE MMBJNK7403D****** The vehicle was brought to us today with numerous oil leaks, upon inspection we have determined front and rear crank oil seals leaking. As the vehicle has had new seals in the past on 2 repairs we carried out futher examinations, we have checked the end float on the crank and found the crank movement more than other vehicles tested. We can say that the end float is affecting the seals. The remedy therefore would be replacement engine or short motor. Is what the garage say true about the movement damaging the seals? apart from the oil leak would it cause damage to the engine if i ran the car? Now the guy i bought the engine off came recommended and he is from london area and we agreed that if anything went wrong with the engine he would only guarentee parts because he is not fitting the engine (fair enough) but never expected to replace the engine again at my cost. The guy at mitsubishi said he would charge £500 to replace the seals but because there is exessive movement in the crank they would just go again. So what can i do? the guy i bought the engine off is willing to supply parts to fix it but he wants to know what oil is used and i have a feeling he will try an get out of it if he can, Thing is i was going to sell this and come back into the scooby scene (fat chance of that now) not unless i put a subaru engine in it What would you guys do? is it worth another repair bill? absolutly gutted i thought 2013 may have been better then 2012 | |

| Only wants a set of thrust washers by the sounds of it and obviously the crankshaft seals, not really a big job as such and it could probably done without removing the engine | |

| Should be fairly straight forward to do mate if you can find a decent diesel fitter (not Mitsubishi) normally you can just unbolt the mains caps and slide the new thrust washer/bearings in place without moving the crankshaft, but its probably worth checking the main bearings aswell if its got a large amount of float, I'm sure the l200's your shape had and issue with the front crankshaft pulley coming off or loose that's worth looking into aswell mate might save you future problems | |

| I am an L200 specialist fella, having previously had alot of them come to me for repairs.
IS the crank seal definatly the cause, the rocker cover gaskets and half moon gaskets are super common for failing and untrained techs go fo crank seal as the rocker dorps oil onto the top of the box and down. They dont normally suffer from crank movement, they can and have snapped cranks though !
If you would like to talk to me you can PM me and send a number and i can ring you and talk about it.
If your after being out of the truck, i know of a nice BM coupe or Audi A4 tdi then can be dealt with. | |
