| Subject: Blown turbo or valve stem seals ? Thu 10 Apr - 22:43 | |
| Hi all,
Started my car this morning and big cloud of smoke came from exhaust , then cleared .. Drove it to work then left it and it did it again at lunch when I went to go start it again , smoke clears but can't really tell if it does when driving
The day before had it on a airfield doing 160+ then it cut at about 165 when it had revs to go , could this have been the finale for the turbo ? Would I be looking at stem seals or would I have done the turbo in? There is play in shaft up and down a bit but nothing horizontal . There is oil in intercooler and inlet but not very much in turbo just tiny amount or could this have burnt off on my journey home
Car is a wrx blobeye running 300+ on a vf48 turbo
What would I be looking at for a rebuild on the turbo ?

| I e been having a bit smoke on start up sometimes. I've been told that cause I drive it hard, oil residue enters the inlet/intercooler. Apparently an oil catch can will sort this. Have a bit research for yourself as I'm not that clued up on it. Don't think there should be any vertical movement on your impeller shaft tho mate | |

| Doesn't sound like turbo if it is boosting fine and doesn't smoke once started, as said you could have a little bit oil in the intercooler, worth pulling that off and having a look.
Just got your message, I can rebuild it for you if that's what you want but what you are describing doesn't sound like a turbo issue.

| Had a bit of research into it , a few said catch can some said piston rings and another said stem seals , rocker gasket is leaking too but not sure if that would cause it .
Since buying the car I did a oil change and done like 300 mile and nothing measures on the dipstick , never smoked on boost or anything , it's a strange one ! Compression test tomorrow it is !
