speakers in a classic are odd ball sizes mate think the fronts are 3 1/2 inch and rears are 5in..so direct replacements you'll have to start searching ..i modded my doors to take 6in and 6x9s bolted from underneath the rear shelf...
fronts you need to make sure your windows dont hit the speakers when you drop them right down...

on my silver classic I put them in the rear doors as the shelf had no speaker holes as it was an early k reg

kenwoods ,jbl,alpine aren't to badly priced about £40 for a pr 6x9s
Sorry bud cant put link up

You'll probably have to make up some spacers for the speakers out of mdf to fit in the doors as there isnt much depth inside the door for aftermarket ones and it'll give window clearance. It'll give you the freedom to use a more common size speaker aswell which will save a few quid. Just keep an eye out for ones on auction on ebay I picked up a set of hertz components brand new for silly cheap.

If its anything like the newage scoobs its actually the speakers that are the culprits, the head unit was actually ok (built by kenwood / clarion depending on which model you had), but the speakers may as well have been greggs pasties, absolutely shite.  Replace them with almost anything and you'll see an improvement. If you really want some sounds you need head unit with a couple of pre-outs that will allow you to amp the speakers. Components are nice, as Andy says someone like Rainbow do some great units, I had them in the Blob (they are fitted to Lambos and the like as standard) and you'll want a sub for depth. And dont forget decent wiring - no good having a good HU and good speakers and hooking it all up with 99p bell wire. Oh, and dont forget a dollop of sound deadening Wink

But be warned, ICE is as much a slippery slope as BHP.

I have my speakers in the rear shelf, I prefer them that way because it sounds much clearer than having them in the rear doors and it reminds me of my old Escort and Orion days lol I have a Kenwood heatunit, upgraded front door speakers and Kenwoods on the rear shelf, old school style.
