Hey Hardy, CANBus is a Control Area Network and is on most cars from 2000, basically it's a computer network that allows the same wires to run various systems on a vehicle.
Your Impreza does not have a CAN network controlling the headlights or bulb failure indication so you should be okay with the standard HID kits.

2000 - 2005 models dont incorporate canbus newtworking into the lighting system but However the hawkeye varient onwards does for the HID Lighting and Self leveling function

just fitted one of those kits to my car hardy and its a sound bit of kit. all the wiring etc is produced and branded by the same company that do the Ultra HID kits
