Subject: back end clunk on my subaru classic 1998 Sat 9 Jul - 22:44
hi guys
wonder if anyone can help me i have subaru classic. when i drive it it clunks from back end u carnt hear it from out side when moving " had wife run beside me down street lol" . there no play in drive shafts at all. dont understand.

it only clunks when driven slow. when accelarate carnt hear it. startin ta do me head in. grrr

Theres a few things it could be... A worn drop link is most likely given you only hear it at slow speeds, could also be the shock absorber clunking in the body. There's a really good post in the technical section describing how to fix it if that's what it is.
Does it get worse when you go over bumps? Does braking have any effect on the noise?
Best thing to do is jack up the back end and inspect everything you can for play.

When a drive over bumps it flunks and Slow speeds it still does it when out of gear So I thought it couldn't be diff. Also when I Come to stop sometimes back end feels like It sinks a bit ????.

Hey Mark, Sounds exactly like rear shock clunk, got exact same on my Foz with Hawkeye suspension on that I need to repack with grease.
Sure that you cannot recon the Classic struts, someone on here will have a pair for you.

Hi just looked at how to repack them As you say don't think you can do them On mine grrr not one thing it's another.
