Subject: Standard sti ecu better than aftermarket ecu? Mon 13 Feb - 20:22
Had a few discussion with different mappers around the country over the weekend and one of them insists that the standard ecu in my car is better than the aftermarket one I have got to go in it! Is this right or wrong cause I'm wondering if ive wasted my money? But on the other had why would companies develop aftermarket ecu for? And what are the main gains and benefits? Anyone shed some light on this or am I being spoon fed bull s*%t! Lol

I suppose one of the main gains is the fact that you will be able to have more than one map with the after market ecu and you won't with the standard ecu.

the main reason is the max power which can be run using oem ecu,the maf (airflow meter) limits the power of oem ecu, on yours this would be around 450bhp ish, aftermarket dont use maf so theres no limit, if running under 450bhp id just stick with original ecu

Main benefit with standard ecu is it still has a degree of knock correction whereas an aftermarket ecu like simtek does not. Knock correction is on some aftermarket units but youre talking big money then

The aftermarket ecu I have has knock correction built into it

Still keep hold ov it marra.....when you first got it you had 500bhp in your mind yeh, am sure it was money well spent in the end tho clarky, if you staying within 450 then yeh it was kinda pointless, but going off your plans I'd have it fitted and sitting pretty ;0)
