Oil Pressure readings Empty
PostSubject: Oil Pressure readings   Oil Pressure readings EmptySat 5 Jun - 17:03

Hi,

I've just fitted an oil pressure gauge and wondered if the readings I'm getting seem right.

On start up the gauge reads 6.5 bar at idle

Once up to running temp it reads about 2.5 to 3.5bar at idle and between 5.5 to 6.5 under normal driving.

Does this seem about right?

Cheers Paul

Sounds OK Paul. You have to remember, when you start your motor from cold the oil is very thick hence the high reading. Mine reads almost 7 BAR. Obviously once the car is upto temp the oil is thinner and will read slightly lower (around 6 BAR when on the move). The idle reading is around 2 BAR because the oil pump does not need to work as hard.

depends on the grade of oil youre running too. mine is 5.5-6Bar when on the move, 1.5Bar at idle (when up to temp)

running 0/40. sat at 2bar when running 10/60 beforehand. when i rebuilt the block i used the race bearings remember which have slightly larger clearance and that affects the pressure too. general rule is engines require 10psi of oil pressure per 1000rpm.

10psi at 1000rpm would indicate big problems with a subaru engine
