PostSubject: Braking problems   Braking problems EmptyFri 2 Jul - 7:52

Thought it better to open up a new post in case people dont read the "EBC Pads" thread.

The car is shuddering quite badly under braking, and gets worse with more pressure applied. As far as I can tell I'm not feeling the vibrations through the pedal itself, but through the steering wheel and the rest of the car for that matter (which initially made me think it was coming through the pedal)

I swapped the pads out last night for brand spanking new ones and thought it had initially improved, but I was wrong. After several runs last night, it was the same as before.

Ive posted a "Wanted" note for some discs ( https://nesf.forumotion.co.uk/wanted-f3/front-discs-for-2004-blobee-t1499.htm ), as I'm going to swap them out next to see if that the cause, but thought I'd ask my elders and betters for opinions.

The discs are covered by a warranty as the manufacturers claim they are good for track days. Ive spoken to them and they say they'll stick by that, I juts need to return the discs to them for investigation / refund / replacement etc etc.

Unfortunately this has come to the attention of Mrs KGT and she is giving me the "sell, sell, sell" eyes she was giving me earlier in the year. If I cant get this sorted, the chances of that VF48, 550's and 3 Port Boost Solenoid getting anywhere near the car are about as likely as the England team appearing in the honours list for services to international pride.

As always I'm very grateful for any advice received.

I'm sorted mate, thanks for the offer.

You wont recognise these, but I thought I'd show them anyway........they are my hands......and yes folks, they are actually dirty Shocked

Braking problems P1040111

You also wont be familiar with this next picture......the red marauder on my drive with the bonnet up.

Braking problems P1040112

And you definitely wont have seen anything like the last picture, which is work being carried out on the car by yours truly

Braking problems P1040113

I whipped out the Godspeed pads and dropped a set of brand new std ones in and took it out for a run. The judder was still there, but I'd at least confirmed one thing.

Next thing was to remove the discs and take a look. Unfortunately there was quite a bit of detritous on both hubs which wont have helped the smooth running. After quite a bit of wire brushing and general abrasive attack, the new std discs were fitted and the car took out for a run. Result = smooth as an angels bottom.

All of this was done under supervision you understand and with the loan of my compadres tools the job was actualy a lot easier than I'd imagined and I have to admit, thoroughly enjoyable and rather satisfying. So much so that Ive ordered a tool cabinet and some decent tools, so I can get cracking on a few other things in the future.

Stay tuned for plenty "help, what the fcuk have I done now" posts. Very Happy

Big thanks to my mucker John Boy Wearmouth and cheers to Mark @ Import Car Parts for sorting me out the gear.

Next up is an attack on my calipers - new seal kit in hand already and caliper paint colours being narrowed down as I type.

They are made from a poor quality steel, when grooves or vents are added it weakens the material, at a temperature a standard disc would have no problems with, these discs will fail.

If you don't take them over there thresh-hold they will be fine, although it is in my opinion that these disc should NOT be called performance discs. vented and grooved yes but they are in no way performance upgrades.

if its godspeed grooved discs youve got then theres your problem, he does not stick by warranty, he wont give you new discs just re skim your bent (warped ) ones, when you eventually get them back( approx 10 days) the judder becomes twice as bad, all he does is machine grooves in bog standard discs which weakens the disc so it warps in no time

I had the godspeed discs on my bug-eye and they are shite, like jonny and andy say they are not performance discs just standard discs with grooves in them. I went through a set in about 3000 miles with my heavy foot.

Keith well done, youll be stripping the engine out next affraid affraid

I'm sending the discs back when I get back from holiday and if they arent any better when I get back I will ask for a refund, which to be fair he has offered if I am completely disatisfied.

I'd love to go whole hog and drop a set of brembos on the front but my wheels wont clear them.

Whats next on the recommended list then.....black diamond, performance friction, ferodo.......buy an evo ?

All of the above are performance discs and will work well, performance friction seem to get a very good write up, I haven't used them myself so can't comment, I can hoverer recommend DBA performance discs, very good in my opinion.
