Due late in 2012 possibly early 2013, the next-gen STi will get an enhanced version of the 2.0-litre turbodiesel offered in the current Impreza. Its flat four layout should make it easier for Subaru to maintain the STi’s reputation for fine handling, while delivering better fuel economy. Subaru isn’t about to drop turbocharged petrol engines just yet, though. Insiders say a downsized four-cylinder petrol unit, possibly based on the 1.5-litre flat four that powers base-model Imprezas, is under consideration.
1.5T petrol: OMFG Subaru need to start sacking people fast.. 2.0 Diesel STi: See above comment 3.5 Petrol STi-GT 750bhp:
The car in the pic "LOOKS" awesome in my opinion. Not sure if that is the real deal as its a digitally created image.. But engine options are not looking good.. apart from the STi-GT but I just made that one up

A nice remapped Subaru diesel can give 300lb of torque 400 nm Forget the 0-60 as first and second is a waste of time but mid range 40-90 where the real performance is required is awesom and is a quick as my classic in every day terms
Only thing that is missing is the flat four burble . So that is exciting news for Subaru to have a performance diesel in the range I waited a year for Subaru to launch it in the uk in 2009 but it was a sales disaster as the yen exchange put such a uncompetitive price on the wrxd from £22500 to a whopping £25500 before extras ,and the STi went up from 26k to 33k The Subaru diesel was rated one of the smoothest on the market although economy was not class leading due to the heavy weight of the AWD

That's all very nice if you want a diesel powered STi.. From what I found out last night tho they won't be producing a 2.5 petrol version just a 1.5. So the days of big power subarus are pretty much over some time in the future..

My understanding was a 2 litre na engine of 225 BHP Maybe the BRZ engine in it ? But I agreed the days of the massive power machines is over for Subaru EVO are being discontinued I read somewhere too so looks like the diesel performance cars are hear to stay The bargain of the decade is a new STi at 27k with a 340r conversion for only £1600 which is the same price as a ppp conversion on a turbo 2000 way back in 1999
Looks like that will be the last fast Subaru out of its standard box
BRZ and gt86 market I think will be massive in the future
I do like the 2013 STi though

you can allways, put a new 2.5 engine in with a big turbo.
if it looks like that when it comes out, I may have to part with the new saloon as it looks nice.
