| How many people on here declare all their modifications to their insurance company and are honest, or do people keep some of there modifications a secret when getting a quote, I declare all of my modifications when getting quotes but have been on some of the compare sites and have found that some big savings could be made from saying that the car is standard, on the compare sites as soon as you state modifications most of them aren't interested or the price goes up to a ridiculous level, what would be the consequences of insurance finding out about modifications if you had not declared them. | |

| I'm pretty sure everyone on here declare all their mods Be aware that insurance companies are in the habit of looking through forums and have been known over the last few months to refuse or cancel cover due to discrepancies between the declared and the actual mods. | |

| Imho i dint think it should matter as it will be the driver/owner of the car loosing out, if they crash it etc. insurance prices are a joke to start with anyhow. Get jezza clarkson in charge of the country for all us drivers. Lol | |

| Yeah but if you have not declared mods and you crash into another car for example, insurance company could then refuse to pay out because of the undisclosed mods leaving you to foot the bill for both cars which could get very expensive, same could happen if someone crashes into you, other persons insurance company may refuse to pay out through undisclosed mods, leaving you to foot the bill even though it wasn't your fault. | |

| I declared my 19" alloys and tinted windows on my mk5 golf gti to Adrian flux and they didn't care at all. I also told them when I got 3 points for speeding and still nothing changed. Only problem was they wanted £3500 to insure a UK T2000 | |

| Speaking as an ex-broker who's seen this a few times, this is crystal clear - if there is anything on the car thats not on your file, you are asking for trouble. If there is ever a reason for your car to be looked at by an assessor, they will go over it with a fine tooth comb and you will most likely be found out. Before you say anything like "I just didnt know", the company will tro out the old faithful "Ignorantia juris non excusat", that ignorance is not an excuse and you as the keeper should be aware.
If this happens, your cover may be declared null and void, in which case not only will you be responsible for ALL third party costs in addition to your own, you will most likely be prosecuted for driving without insurance and pick up an IN10 offence for your licence. Depending on the reason for the vehicle inspection, like its been involved in an accident you caused, the licence endorsement could be the least of your worries. Oh and get ready to enjoy a 200-300% loading on your next policy......if you can get one.
I agree that most "comparison sites" dont ask the question about mods, but when you actually take out insurance the prop form from the underwriter will have a question on it and if it doesnt, there will be a line in your policy doc stating that all relevant info should be volunteered even if it wasnt asked for.
Dont fool yourselves, theyve been doing this for a very long time and some of them are rather good at their jobs.
Sorry for sounding so dramatic, but I'd hate anyone on here to feel the full weight of the law for something so avoidable.

| I'm insured with Admiral and subsequent to this thread I called them to tell them about every little modification cosmetic or otherwise that I didn't think was that important such as, carbon fibre mirror & B-Pillar covers, Samco silicone hoses, carbon pulley cover, alloy pulleys and front mesh grille, stainless brake lines and the front & rear anti-rollbars I am getting fitted on Wednesday. The annoying thing was that the young Indian lady on the phone didn't have a clue what most of these things were. She said that there would definitely be an increase in premium as it was a higher risk for them to insure me but they may not even agree to continue my insurance as I have more than 5 modifications and it would be up to their underwriters. I asked her how it was a higher risk for them when all they would pay out in the event of a claim was the market value of the standard car....she couldn't answer me but just kept saying it was a higher risk.......... Goddammitt! I asked to speak to their underwriters but they weren't working at 9.00pm. I asked them to call me back tomorrow...lets see what they say and I will let you know. Sorry for the epic post |

Be prepared to be really fcucked over. I was insured with Admiral. When I first got my old WRX it had an STi back box fitted, which I declared. Another £50 please Sir. You're better off trying a specialist insurer like Keith Micheals. I declarded all my mods. 2003 WRX EcuTek remap, Prodrive sports cat, full stainless steel exhaust system, STi rear spoiler, Samso hoses, non standard dump valve. £675 Fully comp.

| Keith Michaels wouldn't insure me because I hadn't had the Scoob for 2 years. Even though I have owned and insured Scoobs in the past. If they try and get the arm in I will go elsewhere. |

| It used to be 12 months with KM, You could give Greenlight or A-plan a try. Declaring any mods with mainstream insurers nearly always means big £. | |

When I bought my 1st scoob 3 years ago Keith Michaels insured me no problem only thin was, they wouldn't put my other half on the policy as she had only had a licence for 4 years and they stipulate 5 for scoobs, the following year they added her to the policy as she had then had her licence 5 years. I've just changed over to A-Plan this week as renewal was due and got a better deal off them.

| As expected, those shysters at Admiral called me back tonight to cancel my policy as they could not insure me because I had more than 5 modifications and it was a higher risk for them. The awesome thing was they are charging me £50 for cancelling my policy - even though it is them that is cancelling the policy and refusing to insure me! Good news is though I called Sky insurance and took the "Natski approach" and declared everything including the Magic Trees and they quoted me £690 fully comp including business use. I haven't called A-Plan yet as they are closed but Sky said if A-Plan beat the quote they will better it. |
