Hi my lass got a 98 Clio 1.2 8v but me mate who is a auto elec says there a short in a wire to the ecu. In theory the ecu fooked. So could a buy a ecu and just plug it in or will it have to be tuned to the car

If their is a short in a wire that is leading to the ECU isn't that also going to feck the new ECU also if you change it.

Sounds strange, a 30amp fuse protecting the ecu, should be around a 60amp for ecu. It COULD BE an ecu fault but i would be doing a continuity/resistance test along the wire and make sure it's deffo not just a broken wire or short to live/earth.

No bother mate me dads kept going in to limp mode wouldn't go over 2000 revs and would blow fuse for horn and wipes and other stuff but after my little fixes was fine

I thought that only effect the 'newer' style engines, rather than the older type ?
