I used hairdryer and credit card to flick the edges of each letter so you can pull off. Then used autoglym tar remover to get rid of the shit left behind.

Hair dryer might work or I have a craft heat gun that gets hotter but not as hot as a paint stripping tool, you're welcome to borrow that if you want.

Heat gun could damage paintwork, hair dryer safest option
Its nice day outside, if you park it in the sun for few hours it might be enough to get them off!

I used boiling water and a tea spoon.. Don't even think about it I pulled bits of laquer off and now my boot is getting re sprayed
A friend of mine showed me how its done properly with strong fishing line and petrol to remove the glue after I made a right mess of mine

Use very fine copper wire (out of cable) loop it around your fingers, place behind your lettering and pull the wire through slowly.
