another thread about induction

I know cone filters are usually frowned apon due to them drawing hot air from engine bay, and people say there is no need under 300bhp.
but..... I have been offered one for free
so what I want to know is:
If they are properly shielded do they make the car run worse than having a panel filter or do people just not bother because there is no advantage over a panel filter but they are three times the price.

sorry if this is a repeat post but all I can find is people saying don't bother with one, but with no real explanation. Don't forget I will not be paying for it so cost is not an issue.

I fitted one simply to hear the turbo more, what's the point in having a turbo charged car if you can't hear the turbo

Put a cone on, shield it well and create a good efficient cold air feed.
