Ok guys, this has gotten progressively worse since I've bought the car... when it gets up to temp the idle goes like the video, sometimes its hunting between 900-1500 but 9/10 its like the video... i've taken off the AICV, cleaned with petrol and replaced the gasket... started the car without the AIVC plugged in and the idle flew to 2k and didn't budge...plugged it back in immediately dropped back to normal...so in my books that's working!??!
I've checked for air leaks - of which I have none - even had the IC off today to check the hoses properly etc
on the net people have mentioned the coolant temp sensor?
This is doing my tits in now - it may go away for ten minutes and return, other times the idle will hold at 1500 but if I put the brakes on and lift the clutch enough for the car to try to move the idle returns to normal.... which gets me thinking it's the map possibly?
I'm at Andy F's on Friday so hopefully if it is a sensor he'll be able to check his datalogs and tell me... but I'd prefer sort it before going

Bit of a long shot butte had this while racing last year and it was a blocked fuel filter. Was fine cold but ran like a bag of shit hot.

I'll have a look - but it's only the idle - runs perfect otherwise - oh come to think of it a when keeping in hear but off the accelerator it holds the revs longer than it should? Almost as if I have my foot on the accelerator? But there's plenty slack on the cable?

Does it have a idle control valve?

sounds like faulty idle valve, doubt its coolant temp sensor as your model only has the one sensor from which the ecu and clocks both get signal from, so if your temp gauge seems to be working as normal then most likely the coolant temp sensor is fine, you can get a more accurate look at what the sensor is doing by plugging in a code reader and switching it to live data, it displays temp in 2 degree increments an air leak will usualy cause revs to drop in most cases but can cause high revs depending on where leak is

Excellent thanks fella! Temp gauge is working perfect... Is the idle valve the £300+ part?.... Prepare to see a grown man cry haha
Speaking of crying - I maybe needing you to my heads off and remove two plugs - Gipa said he doesn't want to put any more force than his is already, so getting It mapped with current plugs as the two that did come out were still good - then we'll have a conversation - cars cost quite abit in not very much time, could always be worse though I s'pose EH!

yes that's correct, a new icv is over £300, on cars ive repaired with faulty icv ive just sourced a used throttle housing for around £30-£40(complete with throttle sensor and icv) and simply just bolted the replacement housing on, all wrx and sti newage are the same, slight variations with the map sensor which is also on the throtle housing, andyf may or may not be able to map your car correctly if your icv is sticking open, best speak with him beforehand

Bought second hand 'tested' one from Matt @ BR developments... Another new gasket and fitted just now - RACED STRAIGHT TO 3k! 'Ok, car needs to learn.. I'll give it a minute' as it warmed it got higher 'ok I'll go for a quick drive up and down the street....still 4k revs haha clearly stuck wide the fook open and NOT tested :-( Just messaged him on scoobynet, hope it can be sorted before Friday

Apparently if I had oem ecu it would self learn but it's been mapped the the failing one - so taking the new one up with me and change it there
