Mapping my wrx Empty
PostSubject: Mapping my wrx   Mapping my wrx EmptyTue 1 Mar - 20:30

Hi all, after some advice on getting my 2003 wrx mapped, the only mods the car has are dump valve and full 3" decated turbo back exhaust, questions are, what gains am i going to see, and do you not need to fit an walbro fuel pump, and how do you control the boost? is the standard ecu boost control ok, or do you need to fit a boost controller or a 3 port?

Many thanks Ray

You have two of the best mappers in the country as members on here.
Check out the following links:

Duncan @ Dynamix.
https://nesf.forumotion.co.uk/t1313-racedynamix-subaru-ecu-tuning

Andy Forrest.
https://nesf.forumotion.co.uk/t3820-afp-subaru-custom-mapping

Some of the lads hold mapping days at their garages,
Finn has Andy Forrest down at his a couple of times this month and Drew normally has Duncan over whenever their are a few to be done.

If you have decatted turbo back exhaust I would strongly advise getting it mapped as it will probly be running rich. You may even get boost spikes.

Usual stuff to do before a remap:

K&N Panel filter
3 Port boost solenoid (prodrive or tactrix do good ones)
Walbro fual pump
Resonator delete
TBE (you have this already)

Important thing is not to change anything after the remap until your ready to get it remapped again as when you remap it, it fine tunes all the settings to your individual car.

Cheers mate i thought that, but i phone up tuners and they say walbro's and 3 ports are not needed till like stage 2 ????, iv had evo's in the past and they were a must for mapping them

It depends. Im not sure on your year of car but the stock fuel pump and boost solenoid on my hawkeye STi are fine and I have mine mapped to stage 2. It could possibly be the same with yours?

Ray, get the car mapped to make sure its running correctly and you might even see a fuel saving.

With the mods you have and the addition of a panel filter and walbro fuel pump + remap you could see your car produce 280-300hp the limiting factor is going to be the Turbo.

You dont need to fit a boost solenoid at that level many cars running that level have the standard 2 port. I would only fit a 3 port if you where thinking of a larger turbo to control boost.

The boost will be controled with the ecu, your two options on the standard ecu tuning are open source (Duncan) and ecutek (Andy). The open source route is cheaper as you dont have to pay for a license.

Thanks very much iddy, im in touch with andy now, thats really good gains i would be happy with that, iv done exhaust ready for the map i drive the car off boost to avoid any damage i want it mapped asap tbh, but i must say the way the car is now its very sluggish, dont get me wrong it pulls but the rev counter seems very slow, does the map take out these flat spots

Thanks ray

the car will not be running 100%, that the idea behind the remap, to make sure furling, timing and boost control are all correct. You will see a big difference.

One of the tuners did testing on a standard car and found with a remap the car ran alot better than standard. I think it was Andy

Duncan's mapped my WRX several times in various guises mate - he'll tell you if there's something not looking quite right and make sure it's mapped safe to suit until it's sorted Wink

Assuming everything is spot on you'll love the results - be like a different car Cool
