Just be sensible. if it doesnt get wet under normal conditions, give it some protection. dont go in with too much pressure, if you are using gunk or a gpc you dont really need a pressure washer, a garden hose will be good enough. just apply your chosen weapon then agitate with a little brush.

the following link from scoobynet has some good ideas.

I'll be doing mine after the the worst of the bad weather is away. Might post a quick how to guide up afterwards.

PostSubject: Re: Engine cleaning   Engine cleaning EmptySun 29 Jan - 16:31

when i did mine

i covered the following parts,

alternator,maf,boost solenoid,battery terminal

Engine cleaning SAM_0312

then i cut a bit of cardboard to cover the fins in the intercooler,no pics of it.

then i powerwashed the whole engine bay,

then sprayed engine gunk cleaner all over the engine and worked it in with a small metal brush and the odd old toothbrush in the hard to reach areas.

after this i power washed the whole bat again to remove all the crap,

then i removed all tin foil and cardboard and started the engine and allowed to tickover for a few mins while i used an old microfibre towel to soak up the puddles that remained,

turned engine off and dried the excess up,

then sprayed aerospace 303 over the complete engine bay.

shut the bonnet and started the car and allowed to run for a further 10mins, or 5mins and a quick scoot round the block,to get the engine to heat up to allow the aerospace to soak into all the plastics.

and this was my bay when the car had a photoshoot last yr
takes around 25 mins to do the engine every 3months now,

Well i  had a bash,  first attempt.!!
Started by covering electrics and intercooler with cling film & tin foil.
Put some gunk in a squirty bottle and give whole engine a good spray.
Left it to go off 5-10 mins then then worked it in with a stiff paint brush & toothbrush.
Rinsed off with a garden hose on low pressure.
Dried off as much as poss with old towels.
Finaly removing film/foil, starting engine and letting tick over 10-15 mins..!
Looks ok but not sure untill 2mo as was dark when finished
I'll upload some b4 & after pics anyway
