| Well I noticed that when giving the car a good old burst of acceleration that the gear change from 4th to 5th gear was a little bit notchy. I like things to be perfect, so I decided to get it checked out. So my buddy Andy Bish removed the gearbox and I brought it to a highly recommended gearbox specialist just round the corner from where I live. He stripped the gearbox down and as I suspected it had a slightly worn 4th to 5th synchro. This was replaced and he checked over the rest of the gearbox and gave it a clean bill of health. I had a good look at the clutch while the gearbox was out, and although it looked in excellent condition, I did not want to waste the opportunity of upgrading the standard Exedy Blue clutch to a new Exedy Pink Organic clutch due to the increased torque of 392 lb/ft achieved during my recent remap. So I had my flywheel skimmed and a new Exedy Pink Box purchased from Alyn at AS Performance. The gearbox, new clutch & freshly skimmed flywheel is getting fitted tomorrow, so that should see me safely through the winter. Next year I am going to replace the 5 speed with a Newage 6 speed so I can boost the power up and take advantage of the 2.1 stroker forged engine. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Time to get saving....after Xmas! I also took the opportunity while the wheels were off to give them a good decontamination and a winter coat of Gtechniq C5 wheel armour, followed by a coat of FinishKare FK1000P wax. Nice and shiny and the brake dust will just wash off with normal shampoo & water. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] |

| Just a minor mod on the front end. A new smaller (legal) licence plate to replace the big square import plate. I then gave the car a full machine polish, then cleaned it all down with isopropyl alcohol and then applied a coat of Migliore Strata ceramic coating. Takes about 8 hours to cure and bond with the paintwork but it came up lovely and it lasts for about a year and gives it a good winter protection. The ceramic coat is the equivalent of 75 times the thickness of a coat of wax. Just some pics of the results. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]Next modifications planned for 2015 is a TD05 20G Billet turbo for a few more horses temporarily. Then I am going to upgrade the injectors to 740cc, followed by a newage 6 speed conversion and then a further turbo upgrade at a later date. Ultimately aiming for around the 450+ mark when it is done. |

Carl a Type R is definitely worth having as a weekend toy mate. The negative side is that decent ones are selling for good money, the positive side is that they are going up in value and I think they will continue to do so. If it is looked after (which I know you would) it will ne a good investment. I have been offered good money for mine by a few people, but I have turned them all down as I am gonna hold on to this one. Little oil burner as a daily and a Type R as a weekendtoy/project is the way to go. You could do both with the money from your Hatch if youo were to sell it. If you are around next Sunday mate I am going down to see Andy Bish in Billingham/Hartlepool and you are welcome to have a drive of it if you want. I know of a lad in Ayr who has been given his notice at work and has put his Type R up for sale - It's well looked after and running around 400bhp: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]His name is Scott McKinstray, nice lad. He had the same alloys as mine on his car, gold with the chrome lip, but he changed the colour to white |
