| Pulled on the A1 tonight behind an M5 (I would guess it would be around the 2002 shape, private plate, wasn't the 90's shape but weren't a new one) heading toward the 2 Darlo/Aycliffe turn offs. Decided he didn't want to pull over and we were off. Was getting past him then all of a sudden it stared jerking and the dump valve going off, it had maxed out at 146 but was still pulling strong to that, proper sick. He just left his hazards on and was off. All the coin I have spent on the engine it didn't occur to me that it was only geared to this speed. How much would I be looking at for a 6 speed conversion (57 2.5 WRX) and how would it affect lower down acceleration, 0-60 etc? Any how to make things better an S4 than decided to join in took the same turn off as me, I let him past on the slip road and followed him up the duel carriage way and back round the roundabout towards the Burtree and was up his ares all the way, eventually let me past at 120 so that made me feel a little better. | |

| Even more of a sickna, lots more I want to do for 2k before the gearbox gets touched. Sure I got told by someone before I bought it I might as well have got an STI in the first place cos I would end up changing all the parts anyhow. Wonder what the 5 speed is worth second had to reduce cost. | |

| Same thing harped today but with a new M5, a second hand 6 speed must be cheaper than 2k, what breakers are best to look for second hand units. D3VE C on the plate must have cost a fortune that. Mind when we hit traffic he just started undertaking and weaving in out out of cars, didn't fancy killing me sel let him have that one lol. | |

If you fit a 6 speed you need the matching diff, so no you wont get it cheaper

| I did this conversion and it ended up costing a small fortune.
I had a JDM box cost me £1400 API made me a matching diff that saved me changing teh drive shafts as the sti rear diff is much bigger and uses different shafts, that was £500
Fitting etc was free as we all did it between us.
But your talking £2k now just for a box by the look of things

| Or well this idea is getting knocked on the head unless I decide to keep the car when its payed off in a year half's time. Normally change me cars every year to year half as I get bored but I think this ones going to be a keeper. Give it an STI overhaul with the coin I would spend on another motor could be a plan but until then I will have to put up with been beat by every car that's geared higher than 146, bit of a joke really, going to have Rover 600's tearing past me. Still want a bigger turbo as soon as possible mind. | |

| As you said earlier you would be better of selling yours and buying a Hawkeye STI. Get a remap, full decat and your looking at a really quick car.
For you to beat a new age M5, you will need serious power, my mate has one and I have trouble with him.

| I wouldnt go on a public forum and admit these kind of speeds Andrew - will lose you your license or worse. 6 speed and a trip to Germany or take it on track | |

| a uk 6 speed box will connect up with a standard uk diff no probs , so you wouldnt need, rear diff shafts etc, depending on year of 6speed box you may need front shafts as hawkeye has different inner d/shaft joints to all previous models, hawkeye wrx boxes are fetching £500+ as they only fit hawkeye models due to clutch set up(push type rather than the usual pull type), still guna be a costly job, hawkeye sti 6 speeds sell quick at around £2500, some breakers now want £3000, alot of peeps now realising how strong these are | |
