| I was in a little coffee shop in Scotland a few years ago on holiday . It was at at a place called Craobh Haven , cracking little place and near to Cory Vrecken , the third biggest whirlpool in the world . We got talking to the owner and she brought out this book for us to read .
The front of the book was titled " So what's your claim to fame ? " and when we opened the book it made for some interesting reading . It had been filled out by the customers of the coffee shop over the last few years . There was all sorts of stuff in there , folks who said they had met the Queen , folks who'd climbed all the munroes in the country, even someone who said there claim to fame was they were in a gents toilet and they had a piss standing next to Roger Daltry !
I bet there's some interesting stories on here .
So what's your claim to fame ? It can be anything you think is special but must be true .

| When I was a kid my babysitter was Lisa Stansfield and I went to school with Anna Friel. Then, when I worked for Shepperton Studios I got to meet quite a few famous people like Sir Richard Attenbrough, Cate Blanchett, Geoffrey Rush and Eric Cantona who is possibly one of the nicest, most humble people, I have ever met | |

| I showed up David Beckham in our patrol base in afgahn lol he was trying to show of that he thought the body armour was light not best thing to do to lads that have just spent 18 and a ½ hours out on the ground and a three hour fire fight. Long story short I throw my body armour at him and he didn't realise it was 4x heavier than the civiy body armour he had to wear he feel flat on his ass in front of all the cameras | |

That's the most important claim to fame mate Nice to be named amongst such esteemed celebs I have a really funny claim to fame story about me and Sebastian Coe and I started to write it out today and I thought nobody could be arsed to read it because it was such a long story,....was thinking of asking Amazon to put it on their Kindle download list Kicked a ball around with George Best and had a few beers with him afterwards when I did a trampoline display with the Irish trampoline team on the pitch at Windsor Park at his testimonial game in 1988. When I was a young amateur boxer I lived in the poorest area of West Belfast and the boxing club was a complete mess but run on a shoestring budget. Our water bottles for drinking in between sparring rounds in the ring were just big glass 40oz vodka bottles coverd completely in silver gaffer tape so they didn't smash when they got dropped. When Barry McGuigan first turned pro he used to come up to our club to spar with our coaches son (Danny McAllister) who was a welterweight and quite abit heavier than Barry who was a featherweight. We were all in awe of Barry and used to stand all around the ring and watch him get put on his arse quite often by the bigger Danny. During one sparring session I was standing at Barry's corner and at the end of a round he shouted down to me "Mario, give me a drink please son" - I was honoured and so excited I jumped up with the aforementioned 40oz glass vodka bottle and instead of gently putting it to his lips, smashed it straight into his teeth, drawing blood from his gums. I was so upset I apologised and got a bit teary-eyed. He just reached over the ropes and gave me a big hug and told me not to worry as he'd been hit harder than that before...Legend and one of my heroes. |

| Excellent idea for a thread John H! Got a few good claims but I can't use em till I get clearance for me book One dull one - I'm the only person ever to have rappelled down Cows Green Reservoir dam wall (in full assault kit and climbed back up) And I banged a well known ITV journalist/reporter who was embedded with another unit. Bedding the embed it became known...... Was all good fun until like a right fooking knob I fell in love with her and blew me marriage out the water! | |

| Some great stories been submitted . Thanks to everyone so far . It's made me laugh . So here's my humble offerings ;
When I was at Newcastle Polytechnic I had a chance to do a parachute jump . Being young and daft , I thought why not . I'd never been a plane before either so that was going to be a new experience too .
So I did the parachute jump and lived to tell the tale .
But it was another 8 years before I flew in a plane again .
So , for that time , I had the strange distinction of having taken off on a plane but never landed in one !
As for people , one of my relatives on my fathers side , was a member of the crew on the Terra Nova , the ship that Robert Falcon Scott used on his fateful race to the South Pole . Fortuneately for my ralative he wasn't chosen to be in the team that set out to the South Pole but he did help with the setting up of the supply bases and suffered severe frost bite in the process.
So , when I was at Craobh Haven , I entered my "Claim to fame " about my relative in the coffee shop book .
The owner of the shop started to read the stories we'd written as we got up to leave .
Just as I opened the door to leave she said , " Wait a minute , this relative of yours who was on the Terra Nova in the Antartic ? "
" Yes , what about him ? " I asked .
" You do know that Scott's grandson , Falcon Scott , lives here in Craobh Haven ? "
I'd had no idea .
