| If both cost the same and were going to be mapped by the same person, would you choose ecutek or open source mapping????
Please let me know your reasons why aswell.
Thanks

| Both have the same means to the same end, open source has a few more usable features at this present point in time so it would be open source mapping for me.
The fact is ecutek mappers have to charge the licence fee so price makes it a no brain-er in my opinion.
Look at it like this, if freeview had the same programs as sky would you pay the sky subscription???
I think not.

| Is ecutek not live mapping??? As opposed to having to stop change the map, upload it, then try again??
As I said about price was curious which was better just based on the product. Not cost.

ecutek is not true live mapping as you have to stop and upload the settings. unlike a simtek you can map while you are driving. I am with Jonny on this one, if I had not paid for a license for my ecutek I would have gone open source.

| Both use the same method of loading a map on to the car - both require the engine to be switched off to do it.
Simtek/Syvecs etc you can effectively do the whole thing without stopping the engine.
TBH though it is actually quite nice to have to stop it on occasion to give time to study logs and make proper changes without getting bumped around on the road.
As far as one verus the other ... both do the same job. Down to your choice of mapper really and possibly sometimes budget.

| Is it possible to have the switchable high/low boost set-up with the Open Source software, same as the Ecutek? | |

On some cars it is but tbh I have never done one as it is impossible to see which maap you are on. the only way to tell is to put your foot down. Far easier to control boost with your right foot and getting what you want when you want it rather than wondering whether you have switched to the low boost or it has defaulted to that etc. Personally I dont like or see the point.

| Fair enough - was thinking about it for if someone else ever had to drive the car (once the new mods are done) but if the switching is as iffy as that then sod it. Cheers. | |
