splutter at 4 to 5000 revs

hey all hope ya had a good xmas ,i have an 96 wrx saloon it has a stutter at 4,500 revs done coil packs air maf which stopped it but its come bak agin ,had a cluch fited and had some fun with the speedo cable ,i live in n yorks but havnt found a scuby guy roud here yet that can sprt it .also have a knockin flaping noise when turning right done both front driveshafts and all is tight .as you get to know me you will see i know sod all about the car ive got buy hay i bought it to drive not to work on haha.any help would be FAB cheers T .

If you have done the 2 main causes of the misfire on on your model car then it really does need to go to someone that knows there scoobs.

if you were up here in the north east there are a number of specialists we could send you to, unfortunately I don't know any specialists down your way, that said we have a member on here called Alan Bell, he is from York and would be the person I would ask about Subaru specialists in north Yorkshire.

If you can get it up to Andy then that is what you should do, adding a decat exhaust can raise the boost above fuel cut, this will give you a large hesitation on full throttle at around 4.5k, the z4 ecu in the 96 car has a fuel cut at 1.05 bar boost so is less likely to cut compared to the 92-94 cars that were set below that but can still happen.

Do you have a boost gauge fitted? If so what boost reading are you getting?

AS FAR AS I KNOW ITS A RACE EXHAST JAP NAME ON IT YOKAHAMA OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT BUT LIKE I SAY DIDNT CHANGE THE DOWN PIPE .YEH I HAVE A TURBO GAUGE GOS TO 0.9 SPLUTTERS LIKE FECK N DROPS NO PROBS OTHER THAN WHEN FLOGGING ON AND NO PROBS REVING WHEN STOOD STILL ,DRIVES SOUND AS UPTO 4500 THEN AFTER 5000 WHEN I LOOSE ME RAG !!!!!!!!!!!

If it only goes to 0.9 then it is unlikely to be fuel cut, best get it up to Andy.

mine had a splutter at 4500-5k and it was the injectors. also a funny noise when turning left and right it was a wheel bearing gone! mine is a 54 uk sti so not sure how much that will help you

could it be a split vacuum pipe mine did it yesterday changed and good now

after reading a few other peoples problems had a look at my boost controle thingy and disconected my battery for 20 mins and hey presto seems to have made a big difference not been too far yet so will know more tomora
