Nice figure Duncan, Paul had mine at 640bhp/610lbs @2bar last week but my fuel was overheating on runs so he knocked it back to 602bhp till we get the issues sorted.

I'm soo looking forward to getting this power back as I guess you will be soo looking forawrd to say 2.2bar or maybe more. It must me nearer 700bhp/650 lbs once running proper and that will be fun Very Happy:D

If they have a 140mph terminal his gear changes must be really bad to only get a 10.8.

Sorry about the angle of the camera and the squeeley tyres

==============================================

Just a small update before I head the 8 hours up the road to Knockhill for round 2 ...

Due to lack to time to devote to the car because of work I have decided not to change the headgasket for this round and will nurse it gently through the day up there in order to give it the best chance of surviving if the HG was starting to go - there is some debate on this so fingers crossed it will be fine Very Happy

New ID 1600cc injectors arrived on thursday so it was time to take out the old ID1000 injectors (these are sold now) and get the new ones in. Easy enough job with the parallel fuel rails but as the injectors are slightly taller, the rails need spacing up. The spacers are provided with them so all good.

These will get around the issue of the mixture weakening at the top end and provide headroom for more boost over the 1.9 bar I was limiting myself to and allow nitrous to be added on top to give a nice 50bhp shot of power as well as helping spool the already very spooly turbo Very Happy No time to dyno it yet so will have to map it up there today/tomorrow and get it on the dyno soon to see if it will break the 700bhp mark on the std heads/cams.

Zen LSD now refitted after a slight mishap last month with the incorrect final drive ratio in there and the car trying to kill me whenever full power was applied LOL. This will be a big improvement over the std diff particularly at the hairpin in knockhill.

Also added a nice vent to the drivers door to allow some air in there. Anyone that is considering stripping the interior and fitting perspex windows needs to consider how hot it gets in there ... flipping hot !! and this will hopefully stop me withering away Very Happy Very Happy

Well done Duncan.

Car is looking fantastic, have fun up at Knockhill, used to be my local track and was there most weekends playing with modified saloons back in the mid 90's.

Cannot believe the size of that front mount - looks perfect in the bumper. Cool

BC Racing Time Attack Impreza - Page 3 Empty
PostSubject: Re: BC Racing Time Attack Impreza   BC Racing Time Attack Impreza - Page 3 EmptyMon 16 May - 22:09

Back from Knockhill Racing circuit in scotland today after Round 2 of 2011 yesterday up there.

Had a ball and great company but had mixed experiences Smile

The suspected head gasket issue that stopped the use of nitrous in the final at oulton was not able to be fixed in time for knockhill as I was too busy with work to be able to spare a day + to pull the engine and fix (thanks very much people for keeping me busy btw - :thumb: ) so I decided to see how it goes up there and work progressively through the day up there to help nurse it through the day with limited stresses.

Julian, Daz Davies and I travelled up together on saturday and arrived at the track on sat late pm to meet with Bren and the BC guys, Pavlo, Steve F and team mate Paul Doyle and his team. It is a long long trip but great company makes it almost fly by. The weather was dry but the biting wind was cold as and we knew getting heat into the tyres will be the issue of the weekend.

With the car unloaded and plans made for the sunday we set about heading to the hotel to grab some food and chat with team mates, friends, supporters and competitors - great atmosphere at TA events.

Sunday morning was dry but cold, really cold with a grey sky indicating that it wouldnt be dry for long. We had fingers crossed that it would stay dry but in vein, there was moisture in the air for the early warmup and practice session which were a good chance to give Julian some passenger laps around knockhill and also test the Zen LSD in anger for the first time. the diff was a revelation and made a huge difference to the predictability of the car when drifting on power out of the hairpin and also gave drive when previously i was spinning wheels. Love it - thanks Paul Very Happy

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

So warm up and practice done, the only issue was overheating when coming back into the pits from fluid loss. no water spray from the overflow but the water was going somewhere ... we managed it but at only 1.3 bar for the first session and 1.5 bar for the second session it was going to be an issue. there was no alternative to take it gentle and manage track time and heat in order to get it working enough to get points for the championship. There was no way I could out drive locals or those with substantially higher power with me limited to 1.5 bar of boost.

Paul from Zen was there to help get the best from the suspension set up, I always trust Pauls advise on how to set the car up and working with him in the paddock on setting up the cars handling is a pleasure that I missed last year. Giving him feedback on handling and analysing the sectorr times to try and get the ridiculously squeeley Pirelli tyres to work to some extent. getting heat into them was impossible and measuring temps was pointless. They were graining and not offering anything by way of bite or grip even with aero helping. I hope that Pirelli and TA organisers see sense and give us some slicks or proper track rubber to use as it is dissappointing to be not going as quick as we want to go. I am sure they will see the opportunity to make it right.

[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Qualifying brought the rain and the track changed from being slippery to being an ice rink and as we all tip toed round for the laps early in the session setting times as best we could, the clouds moved on and in the space of 1 lap there was grip where there wasnt before and it was a race to get some fast laps in asap on a track that was coming to us. I managed 3rd place in qualifying which was very pleasing but helped by Gav Renshaw being absent from the latter part of the session for some weird issue. Still suffering from the HG issue but with a car that felt good on track it was handling as good as it could and I was enjoying 4 wheel drifting out of the hairpin Smile

The final was a dry track again and I knew I would be up against it with 3 locals and a very fast Gav out there ... 5th was as good as I could expect but points are points and come the end of the season I would prefer to drop a point scoring round rather than a nil point round. Not disappointed really as the extra power would have closed the gap on the winner a lot down the two straights as the car felt good round the rest of the track albeit driving around the limitations of the tyres.

I was grateful to receive the SIDC prize for fastest Subaru though - thanks Very Happy

In Car Video from the final :

[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

The tradition for knockhill is to have a few beers afterwards ... we did Wink

Thanks to Julian and Daz Davies for great company for the weekend and for the work in the paddock throughout the weekend, Bren and the BC team for their support and ecnouragement before and during the weekend - more power and more points for Brands in June :thumb:

Also big thanks to technical input from Paul Blamire - set up is often overlooked and I thank him for the detailed discussions and advice on the suspension and tyres.

Also thanks to Steve @ Bright Green for making the car shiney Cool

Thanks also to all my other sponsors and supporters for their ongoing support :notworthy

Job for tomorrow ... engine out and start the HG fix
