Depends what type it is. If its a baileys or forge just try revving the engine from under the bonnet and warch for it snapping open and shut again. Sometimes they stick a bit and dont seal properly, or close too slowly.

Its a forge, engine runs fine if I lift bonnet and put my hand around it so defo think its gone bad.
Thanks for replys but i have just had enough of this bloody car and its problems!
Time for a change I think. ;-)

check the spring mate you can buy new ones easy to do even i can do it Laughing

They are easy to take apart and give a good clean. only 5 or 6 small allen bolts.

You will then be able to check if the spring is still springy or not, if not you can get a service kit for about fifteen quid i think that includes a new spring.

The only thing am not sure about is what type of lube to use!

I just used PTFE spray, about 3quid from toolstation, on my baileys dv and seems ok for now.

Anybody got any ideas what would be any better?
